Does Bruce Boudreau have a Midas touch for regular season success? It certainly seems that way as he led both Washington and Anaheim to great regular season successes, respectively.
That being said, it certainly doesn’t hurt that he’s receiving out-of-this-world goaltending from Devan Dubnyk.
The St. Louis Blues are having a successful start of their own, currently sitting three points ahead of the Wild but having played two more games than their opponent.
In his last year as head coach, Ken Hitchcock has a legitimate squad to contend for a Cup in his victory lap, led by superstar winger Vladamir Tarasenko.
Minnesota Wild
Eric Staal has been a nice signing for the Wild, as the towering pivot leads the team in scoring with 14 points across 19 games.
After a couple disappointing seasons recently between Carolina and New York, Staal looks to be settling in in his new home.
He may not be the top scorer he once was, but the veteran provides leadership and a solid two-way game as an integral part of a balanced roster.

The addition of Staal allows Mikko Koivu to slid into the 2nd line center role, which is more suitable to where he likely should be slotted.
He plays alongside fellow Finn, Mikael Granlund, and youngster Tyler Graovac, both former centers who have converted to the wings.
The deep forward group boasts a strong 3rd line of Nino Neiderreiter, Jason Pomminville and Erik Haula, which could compose a lot of teams second lines.
On the backend, Ryan Suter logs massive minutes and has experienced a great season to date with 12 points and a plus-9 rating in 18 games.
Matt Dumba seems to be finally rounding into NHL form after an illustrious junior career, but took some time developing and transitioning to the show.
Devan Dubnyk has been nothing but spectacular since arriving in Minnesota from Arizona in 2014.
Dubnyk is an early favorite for the Vezina trophy this season, as he’s compiled an 8-6-1 record with an outstanding .948 SV% and 1.55 GAA.
His SV% and GAA place him second in each of the respective categories.
St. Louis Blues
As mentioned, Ken Hitchcock is in his final go-round as head coach of the St. Louis Blues before he hands over the reins to Associate coach and former Minnesota head coach, Mike Yeo.
The coaching staff has been given a deep and talented roster to work with that appears to be a legitimate contender in the Central Division.
The top-six forward group has the likes of Vladamir Tarasenko, Jaden Schwartz, David Perron, Paul Stastny, Robby Fabbri and Alex Steen, although with Steen currently sidelined, Jori Lehtera has slotted in on the second line.
The group features a superstar in Tarasenko, who leads the team with nine goals and 22 points, which sits him in 4th in the league in scoring.
The backend is equally as strong as their forward group, led by newly-anointed captain, Alex Pietrangelo, who took over the leadership role after the off-season departure of David Backes.
Pietrangelo is joined by Kevin Shattenkirk, Colton Parayako, and Jay Bouwmeester to form a formidable top-four.

In net, Jake Allen was finally handed the starter reigns after years of time sharing with Brian Elliot.
Elliot was dealt to Calgary in the summer, and Allen has responded to the heavier workload to the tune of a 2.33 GAA and .914 SV% in 16 games this season.
Allen currently sits in a tie for eighth in wins with nine, after starting the season with a 9-3-3 record.
NHL Hockey Handicapping Trends
- The Wild are 4-4-2 on the road this season.
- The Blues are 8-1-2 at home this season.
- Devan Dubnyk sits in second in the league in both GAA and SV%.
Free Minnesota Wild vs St. Louis Blues NHL Hockey Prediction
Both teams have been quite competitive this season and sit just three points apart in the Central Division, which has quickly become one of the strongest divisions in the NHL.
I expect this to be a tightly-played match and a battle between two excellent defensive units.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Under 5.5
Pretty much any game that Minnesota is a part of I like picking the under.
In just two of the Wild’s past 15 games has there been a combined goal total of more than five, in large part due to the play of Devan Dubnyk.
The Blues and Wild both currently sit in the bottom half of the league in goals per game, and the Wild sit 1st overall in goals against with an average of just 1.9 per game.
