There’s a battle between two legitimate Western Conference contenders in Silicon Valley Tuesday night. Everyone was high on the home team San Jose Sharks, particularly after the acquisition of stud defenceman Erik Karlsson. The Wild are always just sort of there, and despite most people looking past them in 2018-19, Bruce Boudreau’s men are predictably in the mix to date.
Minnesota Wild
Those pesky Wild just don’t seem to go anywhere in ‘The State of Hockey’.
Minny is currently second in the Central division, and as usual, they are using a stingy goals-against metric (2.7 per game, good for seventh in the NHL) and a shrewd penalty kill (85.2%, good for fifth in the league) to find success. Statistically, the Wild have Mikael Granlund to thank, who’s racked up six goals and 13 points.

Other vets like Zach Parise, Ryan Suter and Eric Staal have been critical to Minnesota’s appearances in the win column. They are coming off a convincing 5-1 drubbing of division rival St. Louis, so the spirits for the visiting team should be high.
San Jose Sharks
The Sharks have a nice blend of crucial veterans and fungible youth, all of which has led to their third place spot in the Pacific division.
San Jose has a great penalty kill unit (an excellent almost 88% success rate, good for third in the NHL) and also rank in the Top 10 in goal scoring.

San Jose’s talent runs long and deep. Brent Burns and Karlsson comprise maybe the best defensive pair in the entire league, and we haven’t mentioned consummate veteran Marc-Edouard Vlasic, which we must if only to use his phenomenal nickname (Pickles).
Fellow greybeard ‘Jumbo’ Joe Thornton is making his way back from injury, and young guns like Joe Pavelski, Logan Couture and Timo Meier drive the offensive bus these days. Martin Jones is a good ‘tendy.
All in all, the Sharks will be among the class of the Western Conference near the end of the season.
NHL Betting Trends:

Free Minnesota Wild vs. San Jose Sharks NHL Prediction:
The Wild are perennially ‘The Little Engine That Could’, in that although they always seem to be short on marquee headline talent, they’re a cohesive unit that finds a way to get the job done. For San Jose’s part, the only people that can get in their way this year are themselves.
They should feed off the good vibes at The Shark Tank, and maybe even chomp on the visitors like they are a bucket of bloodied chum in the water. Eat your heart out, Steven Spielberg.
