Winners of the last eight, the Minnesota Wild head to New York to face one of the two teams with the most points in the East, the Rangers.
New York, fresh off a 7-2 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins, will look to bounce right back and regain the top spot in the Eastern Conference in points.
Minnesota Wild
Minnesota can’t seem to lose in December. Or give up more than two goals in December. The Wild have been on an eight-game tear since losing against Calgary on December 2nd.
In seven games, Minnesota has given up a total of 10 goals in those eight games, while scoring 27 in that same span. That’s a plus-17 goal differential, which is insane.
This Wild team has been fantastic. On the year, the team ranks 1st in the league in goals against (60) and are a respectable 12th in goals for (91).
Devan Dubnyk continues to make an extremely good case for the Vezina Trophy. At 16-6-3 on the year, he has an NHL-best 1.55 goals against average and an NHL-best .948 save percentage. For comparison purposes, Matt Murray ranks second in both those categories at 1.85 GAA and .938 save %.
The Wild are so brilliant defensively that they really don’t need to score four or five goals every night. While not a top-10 team scoring-wise, Minnesota still has respectable scorers in Charlie Coyle (11G, 12A), Eric Staal (10G, 15A) and Nino Niederreiter (8G, 12A).

This team can play on both sides of the ice, making them a tough team to beat even on the road.
New York Rangers
Unfortunately for the Rangers, they’ll have to attempt to beat the best defensive team in the NHL without one of their top offensive players. Right winger Rick Nash is back on the injured list after reinjuring his groin and will be unavailable for Friday’s game.
This means that the Rangers, who rank 2nd in the league in goals, will be looking for even more offense from left winger Jimmy Vesey (10G, 7A) and Michael Grabner (14G, 5A), among others.
Despite 115 goals on the year, the Rangers have been slightly worse on offense this month. The team has just nine goals in the last five games and it will take all four lines firing on all cylinders to penetrate the staunch Wild defense.
If New York is going to win at home before the Christmas break, it’ll need to keep the Wild offense at bay and put the puck past Devan Dubnyk, some way, somehow. Otherwise, this game won’t go in the Rangers’ favor.

Free Minnesota Wild vs. New York Rangers NHL Hockey Prediction:
This is a tough game to predict. One of the top defensive teams against one of the top offensive teams.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Wild ML
I have to give the advantage to the Wild, considering how few goals they’ve given up and how the Rangers have looked offensively lately.
