Dallas completely dominated game one of the series in a 4-0 victory. If the Wild don’t sort things out in a hurry they’ll be looking at that 4-0 margin as the result of the entire series pretty quick.
Minnesota
To say the Wild came out flat to start the playoffs would be a massive understatement. Minnesota was out-shot 14-2 in the fist period and if not for Devan Dubnyk making a number of good saves this one could have been really ugly.
The Wild just looked slower and over matched against the bigger and faster Stars and they’re going to have to change up their game plan moving forward.

No Zach Parise, Eric Haula or Tomas Vanek really hurts this team but where was Jason Pominville? Same goes for captain Mikko Koivu.
Minnesota just couldn’t figure out how to get any kind of sustained pressure on the Stars and were chasing the game from the outset.
If the Wild are going to make a series of this they’re going to have to surrender to the fact that they won’t outgun the Stars, they have to settle on playing a tight checking defensive game and try to grind out a 2-1 or 1-0 victory.
Dallas
If Dallas didn’t look like the team to beat in the West after one game, then I don’t know who did. The Stars were very impressive in game one and never looked like they weren’t in complete control of their opponent.
Granted, that opponent is one of the coldest teams in the NHL coming into the post season, as the Wild dropped their last five games of the regular season and with Thursday’s loss, they have now lost their last six games in total (their last win came on March 29th against Chicago).

The Stars spread out the offense very well with four different players tallying goals and seven different forwards firing at least two shots on goal. Kari Lehtonen earned a shutout in a fairly easy night of work.
Dallas will be expecting a better Wild team on Saturday night, but there’s still no reason for them to change much, they’re just the better team and if they play their game they should cruise to victory.
