Oddsmakers are expecting a close one when the Oilers and Blues meet up Wednesday, setting St. Louis as just -116 home favorites. The Blues are an appealing bet on their own ice, but they’re just 6-7-1 at home this season and have dropped 6 of 8 games overall. Is Connor McDavid and Edmonton the wager on the road?
Edmonton Oilers
On paper the Oilers should be one of the best goal scoring teams in the league. That being said they rank just 26th in pucks netted this season and have been held to 2 goals or less in 5 of the last 6. McDavid does have 12 points in his last 9 games and he should find some success vs. the Blues’ 26th ranked defense.

The O/U for Wednesday’s contest is the standard 5.5 which is iffy with the Oilers Cam Talbot in net. He has dropped six straight contests while allowing 3+ goals in each of those starts. Overall the St. Louis offense doesn’t strike a whole lot of fear in you but they’ve been solid lately with 3+ goals in four of the last five. Could it be another long night for Talbot?
St. Louis Blues
The Blues have had a rough go of it this year, sitting in 2nd to last in the Western Conference. Even though Edmonton is vulnerable in some areas, St. Louis is a tough wager as they are 3-7 over their last 10. Leading scorer Ryan O’Reilly has just 2 goals in his last 8 games although Vlad Tarasenko has been finding the net lately with goals in 3 of the last 4 contests.

The Blues will have some opportunities to score on Wednesday but it’s up to Jake Allen to stop the Edmonton attack. Allen is 4-5 in his last 9 starts. Those losses haven’t really solely been on Allen however as he’s held opponents to 2 scores or less in 6 of those games. Can the Blues offense give their goaltender some help in this game?
NHL Betting Trends:
- Oilers are 1-7 their last 8 road games
- Oilers are 2-6 their last 8 vs. a team with a losing record
- Blues are 11-3 their last 14 meetings in St. Louis
Free Edmonton Oilers vs. St. Louis Blues NHL Prediction:
Both teams are struggling a bit on the offensive end but St. Louis seems to have an advantage in net over the recent couple weeks. Talbot has been a sieve in goal for the Oilers and if Edmonton is going to pull this one out it’ll have to be a high scoring game.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Blues -112
The Oilers struggle on the road and although St. Louis isn’t great on their own ice being at home gives them the edge in this one.
NHL Free Score Prediction: St. Louis 4 – Edmonton 2
