The Edmonton Oilers and Minnesota Wild meet for the second time in a week, this time at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Last time these two teams met on December 4th, Minnesota pulled out a 2-1 overtime win in Edmonton.
Edmonton Oilers
The Pacific Division leading Edmonton Oilers are looking to get their winning season back on track after losing two straight in OT, including the previous matchup against the Wild. The high-scoring Oilers are having a brilliant season on the offensive end, but have yet to find their identity on defense.
The Oilers currently sit 4th in the league in goals for, but 22nd in goals against. If the Oilers can find some consistency on defense, the Connor McDavid-led squad will be extremely tough to beat.
Speaking of McDavid, the second-year center has had a brilliant season thus far. Leading the league in points with 36, including 11 goals, the captain is making those Sidney Crosby comparisons look like more than just rhetoric.
Milan Lucic has been a welcomed addition to the Oilers after coming over from the Los Angeles Kings this year. He’s been a perfect complement to McDavid on the top-line and has netted eight goals to go along with 13 assists.

It has been a tough stretch for the Oilers. This will be their third game in four days and the fatigue is starting to show. The top-line has combined for just two goals in the last five games, a direct correlation to their recent losses.
The team will look to bounce back and finish up a hard-fought week with a win.
Minnesota Wild
The Wild come off a tough 3-2 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday night.
The defense continues to be phenomenal for Minnesota and, as of Thursday night, sit atop the league in goals against with 53.
Goalie Devan Dubnyk has been a major factor in that goals against stat. With a 13-9-3 record this year, his goals against average is a stunning 1.65.
Young right winger Charlie Coyle has been a bright spot on the offensive side. With nine goals and nine assists, including one of each in the last game against Edmonton, the 24-year old has solidified his status on the 1st line.
A home matchup against the Edmonton is poised to go Minnesota’s way, considering their solid 7-3-0 at Xcel Energy this year.

NHL Betting Trends:
- Edmonton is 8-2-1 when scoring first
- 4 of the last 5 Edmonton losses have come in OT/shootout
Free Edmonton Oilers vs. Minnesota Wild NHL Hockey Prediction:
Despite the Wild’s brilliant defense, it’s hard to bet against Connor McDavid and that Edmonton top line. I think McDavid gets back to his scoring ways and beats Devan Dubnyk at least once. Minnesota will struggle to score and the Oilers will squeak out a win.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Edmonton +131
I like Edmonton as the underdog in this one. The Oiler top line should find a way to score against the Wild and pull out a close win.
