As the trade deadline looms, both teams in this game will be interesting ones to watch. After a solid end to 2016 for Philadelphia, they have slid down the rankings and now are on the outside of the playoff picture by six points.
Colorado remains in the basement of the NHL, with some significant trade assets available.
Colorado Rockies
All eyes will be on GM Joe Sakic come Wednesday at noon, considering his earlier statements that star forwards, Matt Duchene and Gabriel Landeskog, available in a deal. The duo are by far the premier names that could be moved this year.
What Sakic will need to address is a leaky defensive core, than thins out significantly after top options, Tyson Barrie and Erik Johnson. The Avs sit 30th overall in goals allowed at 3.3 per game this season.

That isn’t to say that they couldn’t use help on offense, where the team also ranks dead last in goals per game at just 2.0.
They will look to move the likes of veteran forwards, Jarome Iginla and Blake Comeau, for future pieces as part of the rebuilding process.
In net, Calvin Pickard is the top option after taking over the starting reins from Semyon Varlamov.
Pickard owns a 2.88 GAA and a .909 SV%, not great but also not awful considering the defensive unit in front of him. Varlamov could be another player on the move, though his salary combined with his 3.35 GAA and .898 SV%, might make a deal more challenging.
Philadelphia Flyers
The Flyers will likely be sellers as well come Wednesday’s deadline, with the team sitting six points back of the final wildcard spot.
GM Ron Hextall has a foundation in Philly that can be built around, with Claude Giroux, Jakob Voracek, Wayne Simmonds, Shayne Gostisbehere and Ivan Provorov forming that core.
Claude Giroux has experience a down year on the score sheet, with 43 points in 61 games played thus far.
These are certainly not terrible number by any means, though he has proven he can score at a point-per-game pace or better in the past.
The Flyers will certainly need some secondary scoring help. After point leader, Jakob Voracek, and Giroux, Simmonds and Brayden Schenn, who check in right around the 40 point mark, there is a significant drop off. The next best forward after this quartet is rookie Travis Konecny, with his 22 points.

With a number of different goalies on the market, will Hextall address the team’s biggest need? Steve Mason and Michal Neuvirth own SV%s of .900 or under, though prospect Anthony Stolarz is not far away.
Stolarz performed admirably in his limited action this season, with a .938 SV% and 1.79 GAA in four games played.
NHL Betting Trends:

Free Colorado Avalanche vs Philadelphia Flyers NHL Hockey Prediction:
Neither of the defensive units grade out positively in this matchup, but Philadelphia has managed a solid record at home compared to Colorado’s road woes.
With all the roster speculation, it’s also posible that energy and focus is elsewhere for the Avs considering the drastic potential changes.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Philadelphia -1.5.
I like Philly for the win at home.
