The Colorado Avalanche travel to Edmonton as the Oilers try to play spoiler with the Avs controlling the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.
Colorado Avalanche
The Avalanche hold the final playoff spot in the Western Conference, and a win against the lowly Edmonton Oilers is much needed if the Avs want to keep their distance over the Minnesota Wild. Colorado has won five of its last seven games including four of its last five.
The Avalanche took care of business against two non-playoff teams in the Vancouver Canucks and the Calgary Flames, and they’ll look for the same result against an Edmonton team that has the second-worst record in the Western Conference.

The Avalanche have cooled down a bit on offense since the All-Star Break, but they’re still scoring enough to pick up some much-needed wins. This is Colorado’s last game of a four-game road trip before taking on the Philadelphia Flyers and Minnesota Wild at home.
This is a game they need to win.
Edmonton Oilers
The Oilers have rattled off two wins in a row, including a stunning 6-4 victory over the St. Louis Blues on Wednesday night. Despite possessing a plethora of No. 1 overall picks, the Oilers are still terrible offensively.
Their 2.36 goals per game rank 26th in the NHL and goaltender Cam Talbot, who was solid while filling in for Henrik Lundqvist in New York last year, has been a disappointment in Edmonton.
[dfads params=’groups=234&limit=1&return_javascript=1′]
Talbot has a 19-24-4 record and a GAA of 2.50. He hasn’t gotten any help from his defense which is allowing more than 31 shots per game, and he’ll need to be at his best against a Colorado team that is hungry to extend its winning streak to three games.

Both of these teams are looking to extend their winning streak to three games, but the Oilers don’t have anything to play for at this point of this season. Colorado has won five of its last seven games and needs this win to keep its distance over the Wild.
