This will likely be a playoff preview matchup Saturday night in Nashville, as the Blackhawks and Predators occupy the #2 and #3 spots in the Central division respectively.
While they may sit one on top of the other in the standings, they are farther apart in terms of ability.
The Blackhawks are the Blackhawks, a perennial cup contender, whereas the Preds are still fighting for their identity as a playoff team.
Chicago Blackhawks
If the Blackhawks get hot down the stretch they stand a chance at catching the Minnesota Wild for top spot in the central. The goaltending enjoyed by Minnesota may not let that happen however.
While Chicago would like a seeding that comes with more home game, they certainly don’t need it. The core members of this team have been there and done that in regards to every aspect of post-season play.

To have a team with guys still in their 20s that have won the cup together 3 times is an exceptional accomplishment. A fourth cup could secure a “dynasty” tag on the Blackhawks, even without having ever repeated as cup champions.
The fact remains that Toews and Kane are just 28 years old and still have much to accomplish, which the Predators should find frightening if they are to meet in the playoffs.
Nashville Predators
Nashville is coming off of losing a heart breaker in Montreal. What was once a 1-0 lead against a team enduring a massive goal scoring slump resulted in a 2-1 regulation loss. The game winning goal coming with just seconds to spare.
It was an emotional loss for the team considering the Habs and Preds swapped superstar defencemen this off-season. The Preds put their faith in replacing Weber with Subban, which has perhaps worked out better in Montreal than Nashville.

Despite the loss in Montreal, the Predators have been playing good hockey as of late. They had won four straight before dropping the ball in the 3rd period Thursday night, only losing to Calgary in OT the game before that.
The Preds picked up P.A. Parenteau at the deadline as well. Parenteau had scored 13 goals with New Jersey this year.
NHL Betting Trends:
- Blackhawks have won 10 of last 11
- Blackhawks have won 5 straight vs. Central
- Predators have won 4 of last 5
- Preds have won 8 of last 10 vs. Western
Free Chicago Blackhawks vs. Nashville Predators NHL Hockey Prediction:
Chicago has won 5 straight and should be less banged up from having a bye week last week. I like Chicago to send a message to Nashville that they are in tough come the first round of playoffs.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Chicago ML or +1.5
I like the Blackhawks to put 5 past Rinne, just to let him know what awaits him in the postseason.
