A Metropolitan Division matchup will see the 6th place Carolina Hurricanes head to D.C. to take on the 1st place Washington Capitals.
The Caps, coming off an easy 5-0 shutout win over the Los Angeles Kings, will look to win their fourth in a row on Tuesday night.
Carolina Hurricanes
After five straight losses, Carolina has been able to find some success over the past three games, all wins in solid fashion, and will look to make it four straight against the Capitals.
Carolina has found some identity on defense, holding both the Flyers and Oilers to just a goal a piece. It will be a tall order to do such a thing against the Capitals however, and Carolina will definitely need its offense to step up and find the back of the net a few times in order to win.

The Canes haven’t been a great goal-scoring team this season, averaging just 2.7 goals per game. Left wing Jeff Skinner has been the most consistent scorer for the team. Skinner has 18 goals and 19 assists this season, including a goal and an assist over his previous five games.
The Canes have something going for them that has been impressive, though. The Carolina penalty kill ranks 1st in the NHL at an impressive 87.7%.
This bodes well considering the Capitals have an amazing power play scorer in Alex Ovechkin.
Washington Capitals
The Capitals have been wonderful all year, especially on the offensive end. The team ranks 5th in the NHL in goals per game at 3.3.
The team continues to be impressive scoring the puck and has a lot of guys who can do it well. The Capitals have seven players with more than 10 goals this season, including captain Alex Ovechkin.
The captain has 25 goals and 23 assists this season, including three goals and two assists over his previous five games.

He’ll look to grab a goal or two if the Caps get on the power play, but it won’t be easy against a great penalty killing team like the Canes.
T.J. Oshie will be in the lineup on Tuesday after missing a game last week due to a personal matter. This is good news because of how important he is. Oshie has 20 goals and 15 assists, including two goals and an assist over his last five games.
NHL Betting Trends:
- Washington is 10-4 ATS in the last 14 games
- The Total has gone OVER in eight of Carolina’s last 12 games
Free Carolina Hurricanes vs. Washington Capitals NHL Hockey Prediction:
Washington continues to be one of the strongest teams in the National Hockey League and, against a struggling team like Carolina, should grab a pretty easy victory. Washington takes the W at home.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Over 5
Washington scored five goals by itself on Sunday against the Kings. Carolina should be able to get on the board here, and Washington will get at least four. I like the OVER here.
