Coming off a 4-3 overtime loss to Philadelphia, the Carolina Hurricanes head to Florida to take on the Atlantic Division’s Panthers.
Florida, off a 4-0 shutout loss to Pittsburgh, will look for its third win in the last five games against a Hurricanes team that has struggled all year.
Carolina Hurricanes
It’s been a rough season for the Carolina Hurricanes, one that has seen the team limp through the very tough Metropolitan Division.
This season is about over and one must wonder how much effort will be put into winning at this point.
The Canes’ offense has been poor all year, ranking 22nd in the league in goals and averaging 2.6 per game. The team hasn’t had a lot of weapons to light the lamp, outside of Jeff Skinner and Sebastian Aho.

Even on a team with a lackluster offense, Jeff Skinner has played great. He has 26 goals and 23 assists this season, including five goals and an assist over his last five games.
Sebastian Aho has also played extremely well this year. In 70 games, he has 20 goals and 21 assists. Over his last five performances, he has three assists but not a single goal.
Florida Panthers
Unfortunately for Florida, this team could just never find consistency because of injuries and front office shakeups throughout the season.
The 23rd ranked offense and 19th ranked defense has looked like the Panthers of old at times but the team’s most recent struggles almost ensure that the season ends at the beginning of April.
Florida averages just 2.54 goals per game and has just one skater with 20 or more goals. Center Vincent Trocheck is that skater and he’s been pretty consistent this season despite all the team issues. Trocheck has 22 goals and 27 assists, including two assists over his last five games.

The defense hasn’t been great, though. Ranked 19th in the league in goals against, the Panthers give up almost 2.9 goals per game.
And with starting goaltender Roberto Luongo out with a lower-body injury, the team has been letting in even more goals in the month of March.
Put in Luongo’s place has been James Reimer, who has a 14-14-5 record with a .917 save percentage and a 2.63 goals against average.
NHL Betting Trends:
- Carolina is 4-1 ATS in the last five games
- Florida is 2-7 SU in the last nine games
Free Carolina Hurricanes vs. Florida Panthers NHL Hockey Prediction:
Florida has not been playing great hockey recently but has still shown that it can score. It just can’t play defense. However, against a Carolina team that doesn’t have a great offense, I like the Panthers to come away with the W.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: OVER 5.5
This is a matchup between two defenses that don’t have a lot going for them and two offenses with weapons that can light the lamp.
This has the recipe for a game that will see a lot of goals and I’m taking the OVER in this one.
