Some heavyweights have been treading water as of late and some have slipped mightily. Teams like the Lightning and the Avs have made strong gains – the NHL landscape is typically fluid.
So where does your team stand heading into the week?
Let’s take a look.
1. Washington Capitals (35-8-3)
Two Weeks Ago: 1
The Caps hold off the red-hot Hawks this week for top spot. After all they are 7-2-1 in their last 10 games overall and they still have perhaps the best balanced team in the NHL. Washington has a three point lead atop the overall standings with four games in hand on their nearest pursuers. The Caps have been superb all season long – no reason to overthink #1.

2. Chicago Blackhawks (33-15-4)
Two Weeks Ago: 2
The Hawks had a 12 game winning streak come to an end last week. They have climbed to #2 in the overall standings. Corey Crawford has rediscovered his game, Patrick Kane continues to be one of the most dangerous players in the game and the Hawks are still what we thought they were – absolutely elite!
3. Los Angeles Kings (30-15-3)
Two Weeks Ago: 4
The Kings are only 5-4-1 in their last 10 games overall but are definitely one of the toughest teams in the league to play against. The Kings are far and away the top team in the Pacific and an easy top 5 team in the Rankings.
4. Dallas Stars (30-14-5)
Two Weeks Ago: 3
The Stars have scuffled to a 2-6-2 record their last 10 games. They still sit third in the Overall Standings but the Superstars have hit the skids. Until Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin rediscover their game the Stars will look average.
5. St. Louis Blues (28-16-8)
Two Weeks Ago: 7
Are 5-2-3 in their last 10 games and are coming off a loss to the Hawks on Sunday – o shame in that! St. Louis is yet another team that is exactly what we thought they’d be – one of the best top to bottom.

6. Florida Panthers (28-15-5)
Two Weeks Ago: 5
The Panthers are #6 this week. They had a 12 game win streak come to an end just last week but they also lost four straight games after that including a loss to the putrid Oilers. Wins in their last two games against Chicago and Tampa has Florida back on the radar– they could be top 5 again very soon!
7. Tampa Bay Lightning (26-18-4)
Two Weeks Ago 14
The Lightning are the hottest team in the NHL as we head into this week and have re-appeared on the radar for a Stanley Cup run. Tampa has yet to get top notch performances from some of their key guys – when they get going the Lightning are a threat.
8. Detroit Red Wings (24-16-8)
Two Weeks Ago: 6
The Wings have gone just 2-3-1 in their last six games. Like the Lightning there are some Wings players that have yet to show up – Jimmy Howard being one. Injuries have been a factor but this team is too deep to stay in their present slump.
9. New York Islanders (25-15-6)
Two Weeks Ago: 9
The Isles have gone just 5-4-1 in their last 10 games overall. They still sit tenth in the Overall standings with games in hand over all the teams around them. At risk of sounding like a broken record, this team is missing some elite production from some of their top guys. When Tavares and company get on track the Isles should rise – should!
10. New York Rangers (26-17-5)
Two Weeks Ago: 10
The Rangers, like the Islanders have been just Ok the last couple of weeks – just 5-4-1 in their last 10. Rick Nash is struggling and the Rangers just can’t seem to string together consecutive wins. So why are they #10? Because they are the Rangers.
11. Boston Bruins (25-17-5)
Two Weeks Ago: 13
The Bruins got back key cog David Krejci from injury – he is a welcome addition to a team that has gone 6-3-1 in their last 10 games. They enter the week having won four of their last five games – trending upward as we head into the Break. They could use some more home love however – they sit one game under .500 on home ice this year.

12. Colorado Avalanche (26-21-3)
Two Weeks Ago: 19
Look out for the Colorado Avalanche who enter the week on a four game win streak. Suddenly the Avs are tied for 12th in the Overall Standings. Seymon Varlamov is on fire and Coach Patrick Roy has this team believing!
13. New Jersey Devils (25-19-5) Two Weeks Ago: 15
14. San Jose Sharks (25-18-4) Two Weeks Ago: 24
15. Minnesota Wild (23-17-8) Two Weeks Ago: 8
16. Pittsburgh Penguins (23-17-7) Two Weeks Ago: 17
17. Arizona Coyotes (23-19-5) Two Weeks Ago: 12
18. Anaheim Ducks (21-18-7) Two Weeks Ago: 21
19. Nashville Predators (22-18-8) Two Weeks Ago: 18
20. Montreal Canadiens (24-20-4) Two Weeks Ago: 11
21. Carolina Hurricanes (22-20-8) Two Weeks Ago: 22
22. Ottawa Senators (23-20-6) Two Weeks Ago: 20
23. Vancouver Canucks (20-18-11) Two Weeks Ago: 23
24. Philadelphia Flyers (20-17-8) Two Weeks Ago: 16
25. Calgary Flames (21-22-3) Two Weeks Ago: 26
26. Toronto Maple Leafs (17-20-9) Two Weeks Ago: 27
27. Winnipeg Jets (21-24-3) Two Weeks Ago: 25
28. Buffalo Sabres (19-25-4) Two Weeks Ago: 28
29. Edmonton Oilers (19-26-5) Two Weeks Ago: 29
30. Columbus Blue Jackets (17-27-5) Two Weeks Ago: 30
