Pacific Division foes LA and Calgary will square off in California on Thursday night. The Flames have nothing but pride to play for as they’ve been eliminated from the playoffs.
LA is in a dogfight for top spot in the Pacific with the Ducks and down the stretch you have to beat these teams.
Calgary Flames
Well, mostly everyone saw this coming. The Flames were the surprise team of the NHL a season ago, coming out of nowhere to make the playoffs and even win a playoff round.
Coming up against a Ducks team that was just far bigger, stronger, and more experienced was never a matchup that the Flames could win, but you figured they’d learn something and come back better, right?

Wrong. The Flames hit a hard nosedive this year and proved what many figured…last year was a fluke.
The Flames’ suspect defence and very sub-standard goaltending has been exposed all year long and they hold the dubious distinction of having allowed more goals than any other team in the NHL at this point in the season.
Young talent all over the place up front with the likes of Johnny Gaudreau, Sean Monahan, and Sam Bennett, along with some good offensive d-men like Mark Giordano and T.J. Brodie.
But this team looked like the Oilers for much of the year, in that they could score in bunches, but just had no clue how to keep the puck out of their own net.
Los Angeles Kings
The Los Angeles Kings will be in the playoffs this year, this is a recording. The Kings are fast becoming a team that you don’t even need to bother watching for much of the regular season.
You know they’re going to get their share of wins, be in the race for the top of the Pacific Division, and start really peaking around playoff time.
This year is no different than the past few years and there’s no reason to think this Kings team isn’t a threat to take the Western Conference once again, especially given how badly Chicago is playing of late.
What can you say about this team that hasn’t already been said?
They have some of the best players in the league at every position. Anze Kopitar is one of the most complete hockey players in the NHL and he’s surrounded by an awesome group of forwards that includes Jeff Carter, Dustin Brown, Tyler Toffoli, Tanner Pearson and Milan Lucic.

Oh, and they added Vincent Lecavalier as well, who isn’t the Vinny of old, but has really looked comfortable in LA.
Drew Doughty might finally get his Norris Trophy this year, as Erik Karlsson is the only man in his way really, but the Sens aren’t making the playoffs. Jake Muzzin is a very underrated d-man, as is Alec Martinez.
And they have that Quick guy in net still. Yea, the Kings are pretty good.

Free Calgary Flames vs. Los Angeles NHL Hockey Prediction
The Kings have won each of the first two meetings between the two by a combined 6-2 score. Calgary seems to just be playing out the string at this point and this is the time of year when the Kings really start to get into gear.
I’d especially favour the Kings as they took a pretty bad 5-2 loss at the hands of the Sharks on Monday.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Kings -1.5.
Game number 77 for the Kings and Flames. The finish line is in sight for both, but the Kings know that this is where things really get started and they’ll be in playoff mode.
