The Sharks lead the Pacific Division and sit 3rd overall in the Conference, with a strong veteran team that’s poised to contend out of the West.
The Sabres are out of the playoff race and are slowly establishing their core to build around, though some changes in the off-season seem necessary.
Buffalo Sabres
Buffalo currently rank 21st in goals per game at 2.6, and 22nd overall in goals against at 2.9. On paper, the team should be a lot better at putting the puck in the net, but their secondary scoring may need to be overhauled in the summer.
Jack Eichel now leads the team in points, with 47 in his 48 games played, and looks every bit the superstar that the Sabres projected when selecting him 2nd overall behind Connor McDavid.

Evander Kane has put together a nice season on the score sheet as well, with 25 goals and 39 points in 59 games. Kane, the subject of many trade rumors over the past year, has one year left on his current deal and could be on the move at the draft if GM Tim Murray deems fit.
The blueline is led by Rasmus Ristolainen, who has earned 43 points in 2016-17. The fellow defensemen around him will be revamped with the likes of Dimity Kulikov and Cody Franson set to become UFAs at year-end.
San Jose Sharks
Brent Burns has reached the 70-point plateau, leading his team in both goals, with 27, and points at 70. He is on-pace to be the first defenseman to surpass 30 goals since Mike Green did so in Washington in 2009.
The defender is tops among Sharks’ players in ice-time with 24:55 per game, and also has the best plus-minus rating on the team at +25. He is the favorite to win the Norris trophy as the best defenseman this year, with 14 games remaining.
Joe Pavelski has put together another excellent year as the captain of the Sharks. Little Joe has netted 26 goals and 61 points in 68 games played, leading all Sharks forwards in each category.

On the whole, the Sharks grade as the 12th best team in goals per game with 2.8, and the 2nd best in goals against at an average of 2.3 per game allowed.
To that last point, Martin Jones has been a solid starter since being acquired from the LA Kings, where he was the understudy to Jonathan Quick. This year, Jones has registered a .918 SV% and a 2.27 GAA with 31 wins.

Free Buffalo Sabres vs San Jose Sharks NHL Hockey Prediction:
Buffalo is sub-.500 on the road this season and faces a tough matchup in the last PST-game in San Jose.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: San Jose -1.5.
The Sharks have a .647 winning percentage at home and are 7-2-1 in their last 10 games, so despite the Sabres coming off of a solid win in Columbus in their last game, I like the Sharks to cover.
