Buffalo, with losses in six of the last seven games, head to Columbus to take on the tough Blue Jackets.
Columbus, coming off a shutout win over New Jersey, will look to continue its recent success on the defensive end and grab a win against the Sabres.
Buffalo Sabres
It’s been a very disappointing year for Buffalo and things aren’t looking like they’ll change for the rest of the season. After giving up six goals to Philadelphia earlier in the week, the Sabres have solidified themselves as one of the weakest defensive teams in the league.
Buffalo ranks 25th in the league in goals against, giving up 196 in 67 games (2.93 goals per game). It doesn’t help that the offense has been weak as well. Buffalo ranks 22nd in the NHL in goals scored (2.52 per game).

It’s been so bad that people are starting to discuss the fact that the team is wasting Jack Eichel.
Eichel, who’s season didn’t get going until December due to injury, has been the team’s best player despite his injuries. In 46 games this season, he has 18 goals and 27 assists. Over his last five games, he has four goals and five assists.
He’s had some good help from Evander Kane, who has 24 goals and 13 assists. Over his last five, he has three goals and two assists.
Columbus Blue Jackets
Columbus has been pretty great recently. The team has recorded four shutouts in the last seven games, led by goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky who recorded three shutouts in a row.
The defense and goaltending is back to its top form, the way it was during the team’s 16-game winning streak earlier in the year. Bobrovsky, after some shaky starts to begin the new year, has been back to his All-Star form.
He’s been a big reason why the team ranks 2nd in the NHL in goals against this season (149).
Offensively, Brandon Saad has been playing some great hockey recently. On the year, he has 20 goals and 25 assists. He has two goals over his last five games.

Cam Atkinson continues to be the glue guy for Columbus on offense. He has 30 goals and 26 assists, including a goal and two assists over his last five games.
The team has so many skaters that can score, which has given the team an ability to score and score a lot. The Blue Jackets rank 5th in the league in goals scored with 207.
NHL Betting Trends:
- Buffalo is 4-1 ATS in the last five games
- Columbus is 5-2 SU in the last seven games
Free Buffalo Sabres vs. Columbus Blue Jackets NHL Hockey Prediction:
Columbus is leaps and bounds better than this Sabres team. This should be an easy W for the Blue Jackets, as long as the team doesn’t sleepwalk through it.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Columbus ATS
Buffalo can’t stop anybody on the defensive end. Columbus has a lot of skaters that can score. This shouldn’t be a difficult game for Columbus and I’m picking the team to cover the spread in this one.
