The Arizona Coyotes, who have occupied the cellar of the Pacific Division all season, travel to Calgary to face a Flames team eager to make a playoff push.
Arizona Coyotes
With continuous talks of relocation and poor performances on the ice, it’s easy to see why the Coyotes are in such disarray this season.
With just 43 points, the Coyotes possess the second-worst record in the NHL, 11 points ahead of the lowly Colorado Avalanche. Arizona just doesn’t have many playmakers on either side of the ice, and it’s why the team has played so terrible over the last two years.

The Coyotes rank 29th in goals for and 28th in goals allowed. They rank near the bottom of every offensive and defensive category and their longest winning streak of the season has been just three games.
The bright spot for Arizona right now is that the team is finally starting to click offensively. The Coyotes have averaged 3.3 goals per game over their last 10, a huge improvement from the 2.25 goals per game average they own for the season.
They have the opportunity to keep that going against a Flames team that has struggled between the pipes all year.
Calgary Flames
The Calgary Flames return to the ice for the first since their league-implemented week off. With 59 points, the Flames are right behind the L.A. Kings for the Western Conference’s final playoff spot.
Calgary had won four of its last five games before heading into the break, a positive sign for the team going forward. In that span, the Flames averaged 3.6 goals per game, a much better mark than their season average of just 2.61 per game.
The Flames have a ton of playmakers on offense like Johnny Gaudreau, Sean Monahan and Mikael Backlund, but the defense has been a liability.

The front office signed goaltender Brian Elliott with the hopes that he’d be an immediate upgrade in net, but so far he’s been awful.
Chad Johnson has surprisingly played like the much better goalie with a record of 17-12-1. Johnson owns a far better save percentage and GAA than Elliott, something the Flames didn’t foresee when they signed him in the offseason.
NHL Betting Trends:
- Coyotes are 6-15-4 on the road.
- Coyotes O/U is 6-1-3 in their last 10 games.
- Flames are 14-13-0 at home.
- Flames O/U is 7-3 in their last 10 games.
Free Arizona Coyotes vs. Calgary Flames NHL Hockey Prediction:
The Flames have had an extra week of rest to prepare for this game, and I think they’ll come out firing on all cylinders. They’re nipping at the heels of the L.A. Kings and went into their break playing quality hockey.
The Coyotes, on the other hand, haven’t had anything to cheer for all year. On the bright side, their offense is playing its best of the season, and I think that will continue against Calgary’s shaky goaltending.
