Out on the West Coast, the Anaheim Ducks will face off against the struggling Carolina Hurricanes, in what should be a battle of the old vets of Anaheim and the young stars of Carolina.
The Pacific Division Ducks will look to get back to their winning wins after a horrendous 8-3 loss to Calgary and a 3-2 overtime loss to Edmonton.
On Carolina’s end, the Canes are hoping for some semblance of consistency. Coming of a gutsy 1-0 overtime victory over the Tampa Bay Lighting, the Hurricanes will hope to string together some solid wins after losing three straight before Sunday night’s win.
Anaheim Ducks
Anaheim has been the poster child for a middle-of-the-road hockey team this year. The Ducks currently rank 14th in goals for and 15th in goals against.
The average start to their campaign has been good enough for 3rd place in the Pacific Division, but they’ll need to get things going on both ends if they want to keep in the tight five-way battle for first place.
The good news for Anaheim has been the offense they’ve seen from their veteran forwards. Ryan Getzlaf has been fantastic to start the year, tallying only two goals but an impressive 20 assists, good for 2nd behind Edmonton’s Connor McDavid on the assists leaderboard.
But it’s been 32 year old Ryan Kesler that has been the shining light for the team in terms of goal scoring. He’s leading the Ducks with 11 goals along with 10 assists. His 21 points put him right behind fellow center Getzlaf in terms of team points leaders.
The Ducks will also need similar playmaking from right winger Corey Perry. He’s assisted on 15 goals and lit the lamp four times. The nucleus for this team has been three forwards over the age of 30 and that has to be encouraging for coach Randy Carlyle.

Averageness seems to be a trend with this team, as they stand at 7-4-1 on their home ice. The Ducks will hope to get things going on the goal scoring end and break the recent four game trend of only scoring two goals at home.

Carolina Hurricanes
It has not been a good start for the hopeful Carolina Hurricanes, who currently sit 7th in the Metropolitan Division with a 10-10-5 start.
After losing three straight, the Canes were able to pull out a win against Tampa Bay in overtime 1-0. Much like the Ducks, Carolina will hope to string together a couple of victories and find some consistency after this mediocre start to the 2016 season.
Unlike Anaheim, it has been the young hopefuls that have been getting it done for the Canes. 24-year-old Jeff Skinner has had a good start to his year, contributing 20 points (9G, 11A).
However, he has struggled in his last four games, only tallying one point on an assist against Boston. The Canes will need him on his game if they want to give Anaheim a good fight.
Victor Rask (9G, 9A) will also need to find his form. The 23-year-old has been playing well for the Hurricanes, but much like Skinner, has struggled over his past four games and is a -3 overall for those contests.

Carolina will need a great game from netminder Cam Ward (8-7-4) as well. Ward has played pretty well this year, recording a .924 save percentage to go along with two shutouts. Unfortunately, a gaggle of 2-1 losses have tarnished his campaign from a wins standpoint.
If he can keep his wits about him and get some offensive help, Carolina will have a shot.
Carolina has to be better offensively. They will look to capitalize on a mid-tier defense in Anaheim. A couple of good bounces and things could go the Canes’ way on Wednesday night.
NHL Hockey Handicapping Trends:
- Anaheim is 10-1-1 when scoring first
- Carolina is 3-7-5 on the road this season
Free Anaheim Ducks vs. Carolina Hurricanes NHL Prediction:
Carolina just isn’t a good hockey team. They don’t have a player with double-digit goals this season and a series of 2-1 losses has tarnished an otherwise decent year for goalie Cam Ward. The offense will let them down yet again.
Anaheim wins at home, led by the trio of 30-somethings that are playing fantastic this year.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Anaheim -165
Carolina simply isn’t a very good team this year. They gutted out a 1-0 win the other night against Tampa but otherwise have struggled to finish games, losing three out of their last four.
Anaheim should take care of business on both ends of the ice, limiting the young Canes players, and exploiting a lackluster defense.
