Patriots Super Bowl Odds
- 14-2, AFC Champions
New England Patriots Super Bowl Odds -145. The New England Patriots have nearly put together the ultimate revenge season. It all began with Deflategate and the suspension of Tom Brady. The big question to open the year was: How is this team going to look without its lead man running the show?
In a word? Great. When Brady came back, he and the Pats let loose on the league. Only one win stands between them and Roger Goodell having to hand them the trophy. That is a fairytale story for anyone in New England if we’ve ever heard one.

The truth is that history actually isn’t on the side of the Patriots. In the past 15 years, the Super Bowl has gone to underdogs ATS in 12 of those matchups.
Taking it one step further, the Super Bowl has seen dogs be the straight up winners the past five seasons — not to mention eight of the last nine years.

But here’s the catch: Brady and Co. don’t care one bit about history. They’re focused on current events and they have good reason to be confident heading into this matchup with the Falcons.
Here are five reasons the Patriots should be named Super Bowl 51 champions.
Experience
There’s good and bad news in this category. Let’s start with the bad:
In New England’s last five Super Bowl appearances, the team is just 1-4 ATS. That is not a good record on the NFL’s biggest stage.
Here’s the good news: New England has been to enough Super Bowls for this stat to even be relevant. That is impressive in and of itself.
If you’re worried about that ATS stat, don’t be. This is Bill Belichick’s seventh time being in the Super Bowl as a head coach. Between his time in New England and his previous assistant coaching gigs, he’s won six Super Bowls.
Then there’s Brady. The team’s quarterback — not to mention one of the greatest to ever play the position — is a four-time champion as a starting QB.
The only time Brady has ever lost in the Super Bowl is when the New York Giants are involved (twice).
Good thing those pesky men in blue are far, far away from this one.
Balanced Attack
Everyone talks about New England’s defensive attack. And rightfully so.
On the year, the Patriots are giving up just 15.6 points per game. That number is good enough for first in the league. But it doesn’t stop there.
The patriots are eighth in total yards allowed, 12th in passing yards allowed and third in rushing yards allowed.

The catch is that this is a team that is just as dominant in many categories on the offensive end.
Throughout the 2016-17 season, New England managed to average 27.4 points per contest. Remember, Brady missed the beginning of the season to suspension, and yet that number is still good enough for third in the league.
Running the ball, the Pats are seventh with 117 yards per contest. Passing, they jump to fourth with 269.3 yards per game.
This group is as versatile as it comes, meaning both sides of the ball are going to make sure their impact is felt on Super Bowl Sunday.
Atlanta’s Secondary
The Falcons were very good this season at winning shootouts. Their offense proved to be one of the best in the league and Matt Ryan ended up putting together one of the most surprising MVP resumes we’ve seen in a long time.
But this group just doesn’t have the same two-way dynamics that New England has.
Atlanta’s 295.3 passing yards and 120.5 rushing yards were good for third and fifth in the league this season, respectively. And they led to an NFL-best 33.8 points per game.
Defensively, this group allowed an atrocious 25.4 points per night. That number was only good enough for 27th.
Against top 10 quarterbacks, the Falcons completed just four interceptions this season.
Those outings accounted for five of the team’s games this season — a collection where Atlanta allowed a 66.4 percent completion rate, not to mention 15 touchdowns and 311.6 passing yards per game through the air.
Underrated Offensive Line
Very few offensive lines get credit for their successes. This season saw the Dallas Cowboys remind us just how important the big men up front are, but few people around the league were pointing to the Patroits’ group as a reason for their big winning streaks.
For starters, this group was largely healthy, which is a win in and of itself. The other thing to note is that this group didn’t care one bit who was under center when Brady was out. They did their job and they helped the team get off to a surprising 3-0 start.
This frontline isn’t going to get credit throughout much of the game on Sunday, but keep as long as Brady is standing and Blount is running up the middle, these are your unsung heroes.
Motivation
There’s one thing that no stat sheet is going to calculate ahead of this or any other Super Bowl, but it’s something we simply can’t ignore and already eluded to earlier.
This Patriots team has some serious motivation to not just take down the Falcons on Sunday, but to force commissioner Roger Goodell to hand over a trophy to the Pats organization.

Whether you believe the Patriots or not when it comes to Deflategate is irrelevant at this point in the process. There’s no point debating facts at this juncture.
Goodell did what he did as punishment against the Patriots. He suspended one of the greatest quarterbacks we’ve ever seen and yet here New England is.
None of this is to say that the Falcons don’t want this trophy…it’s just to say that the Patroits have an extra chip on their shoulder that should result in a Super Bowl victory come Sunday.
