Both teams failed to make the postseason last year. The Redskins were 8-7-1 finishing third while the Eagles finished 7-9 in last place in the NFC East.
Philadelphia Eagles
The Philadelphia Eagles fans won’t accept another losing season. With Carson Wentz back for his second year as the Eagles starting quarterback, Philadelphia is expecting a win in week one.
Wentz started all 16 games last year. He passed for almost 3800 yards with 16 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. He completed 62 percent of his passes in his rookie season.
The Eagles got Wentz help at wide receiver this offseason. Alshon Jeffery and Torrey Smith should provide solid help to the second year starter. Smith hopes for a better year in 2017. He had just 20 catches last season.
With more offensive firepower than last year, the Eagles look solid on paper but are unproven as a unit. Zack Ertz led the team in receptions with 78 last year, and should expect a big week one against the Redskins.
Expect new running back LeGarrett Blount to have a big impact on the offense, along with veteran Darren Sproles against Washington.

The Eagles defense will look to improve from last year. The Eagles ranked 12th in points allowed and 13th in yards allowed in 2016.
Philadelphia will again be questionable in the secondary. Additions of cornerback Patrick Robinson and rookies Rasul Douglas, and Sidney Jones might not be enough to improve from last year. Safeties Malcolm Jenkins and Rodney Mcleod should have impacts in the secondary against Washington.
The Eagles defensive line will need to apply pressure against the rival Redskins in week one. Jordan Hendricks will lead the way for the linebacker, core while veteran pro bowler Fletcher Cox should apply pressure on Cousins.
Washington Redskins
The Redskins signed quarterback Kirk Cousins to another one year franchise tag deal. While the franchise tag would bother most stars, Cousins does not mind the tag.
The Redskins offense was good on paper in 2016. The team ranked second in passing yards and third in total offense. That might not be the case this season. Washington lost wide receivers Desean Jackson and Pierre Garcon to free agency.
Terrell Pryor will lead the receivers as the go to guy this year while tight end Jordan Reed who looks like an all pro when healthy should give the Eagles secondary trouble in week one.
The offensive line returns all five starts from last year and should provide running room for Rob Kelley Samaje Perine. The line allowed the fourth fewest sacks in the league in 2016.

On the defensive side of the ball, the Redskins are looking to improve from last year’s 377 yards allowed per game last year.
Cornerback Josh Norman will lead struggling defense along with pass rusher Ryan Kerrigan will sure up the defensive line with 11 sacks from 2016.
