This matchup features one of the top five teams in the NFL against a mediocre team at best trying to claw their back to a .500 record. The Rams play in the NFC West and the Lions are in the NFC North.

The Rams and Lions last met in 2016, Jared Goff’s rookie season. The Lions won this game 31-28.
Los Angeles Rams
The Rams are coming off a bye week after their 54-51 win over the Kansas City Chiefs in week 11. Their offense has clearly been firing on all cylinders and even when Todd Gurley did not have the greatest game, the Rams still managed to put 54 points on the board.
The Rams offense is ranked second in all of the NFL in total yards per game. They average 448.2 yards per game. They score about 35.4 points per game, which ranks third in the league. Their passing offense and rushing also both rank in the top five this season.

While the Rams defense has many play-makers, they have not been the best unit overall. Their defense ranks in the bottom half of the league in most stat categories, including total yards, passing yards, rushing yards, and points scored.
Heading into the last part of the season, the Rams will need to play better defense as a whole. If they are going to be a legit Super Bowl contender, they must play better defense and focus on making stops and not just rely on their offense.
Detroit Lions
The Lions lost this past week on their annual Thanksgiving Day game. Two untimely interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown, allowed the Bears to pull off the win after the Lions had managed to tie the game late in the fourth quarter. The Lions are now all but out of the playoffs as they sit with a record of 4-7. They can however finish the season over .500 if they can win out and could possibly be a spoiler for teams trying to make the playoffs. Against the Rams they will be looking for an upset win to put the Rams back in their quest for a number one seed.
The Lions offense has seen rookie running back, Kerryon Johnson emerge as a solid first choice throughout this season. However, he is dealing with a knee injury and it is unclear if he will be available to play in the weeks game. As mentioned, quarterback, Matthew Stafford threw two picks against the Bears in their loss, putting him at 10 for the season. He will be trying to have a bounce back game to forget the loss to the Bears and focus on beating a top team in the league.

The Lions defense has ranked in the middle of the NFL for the most part this season. They did not do a terrible job in the game against the Bears, but with a backup quarterback having played for the Bears, most would have thought they Lions would have been able to shut down Chicago more effectively.
The first thing the Bears must do to shut down the Rams is pressure Jared Goff. If they can disrupt his rhythm, they could potentially make some key stops and allow their offense to be on the field more often. Secondly, they need to force turnover. The Rams are such an efficient offense, the Lions most definitely need to force a turnover or two to keep their crowd in the game and to have any chance of winning.
