Both the Chargers and Broncos are looking to be better than last season. Los Angeles went 5-11, finishing last while the Broncos were 9-7 finishing third in the NFC West.
Los Angeles and Denver split last years series 1-1. The Chargers won in week six at home and the Broncos won in week eight in Denver.
Los Angeles Chargers
The Los Angeles Chargers have a change of cities and venues this year. The Long time San Diego Chargers are located in Los Angeles.
The Chargers facility is now located in Costa Mesa (Orange County) California. The team will play at a soccer stadium in Carson California before moving to their new stadium in Inglewood in two seasons.
Philip Rivers will lead the Chargers in a different city other than San Diego for the first time in his career. New head coach Anthony Lynn takes over for the Chargers as head coach this year.
Rivers passed for over 4,000 yards again last year, but led the league in interceptions with 21. His interceptions should be lower this year.
If Keenan Allen can avoid getting hurt a third straight season and first rounder Mike Williams lives up to the hype. Rivers should have a big year.
Veteran Antonio Gates will lead the way again at tight end, while Melvin Gordon returns for his third year at running back. If the line can hold up, the Chargers could have a top 10 offense in 2017.

Joey Bosa will lead the Chargers pass rush again this year. The returning defensive rookie of the year will look to be more productive with a full 16 game season under his belt. He had 10.5 sacks in just 12 games for the Chargers last season.
New defensive coordinator Gus Bradley will have the Chargers running a 4-3 and will sprinkle some 3-4 in as well. Outside linebacker Melvin Ingram should will boost the Chargers in the pass rush against the Broncos.
With Bosa and Ingram leading the way in the pass rush, Pro Bowl cornerback Casey Heyward will be the leader in the secondary.
He led the NFL last year with seven interceptions. If Jason Verrett can stay healthy, expect the Chargers corners to give the Broncos trouble in week one.
Denver Broncos
The Broncos always have high expectations, especially after missing the playoffs in 2016 and winning the championship in 2015. New head coach Vance Joseph will take over a Broncos team that has questions at quarterback.
Trevor Siemian will start at quarterback for Denver against the Chargers.
Siemian was named team captain in the middle of the year last season. He looks to improve on last years 18 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Siemian could have issues passing the ball against the talented Chargers secondary on Monday night.
Pro bowl receivers Demaryius Thomas and Emmaunuel Sanders will look to improve an offense that ranked 26th in red-zone touchdowns in 2016. Expect a lot of screens and short passes against the Chargers.
The Broncos running back core is loaded with speed and power. C.J. Anderson will provide power, while newly acquired Jamaal Charles will provide agility and speed against the Chargers in the home opener.
(Devontae Booker has not practiced during the preseason after having surgery to repair a fractured bone in his wrist at the start of camp.)

Von Miller leads the Denver defense again this year. The Pro Bowl sack master enters week one with a chip on his shoulder. He came up one vote short of winning AFC defensive player of the year last season.
That’s not a good thing for Chargers this week.
The “No fly zone” defense won’t be as strong as they have been in recent years. Aqib Talib and Chris Harris are back but, safety T.J. Ward is gone to Tampa Bay.
He provided leadership, versatility and big hits for Denver. The secondary will look suspect against the Chargers receivers without him.

- DEN are 2-6-1 ATS in their last 9 Mon. games.
- Under is 6-2 in DEN last 8 games as a favorite.
- DEN are 2-6 ATS in their last 8 vs. AFC West.

- Over is 9-3 in the last 12 meetings in Denver.
4* Free NFL Betting Prediction: Chargers +3
Energy will be high and expectations will be higher for both teams this year. The Chargers have a better offense on paper than Denver and I’m of the opinion that the loss of T.J. Ward could be devastating for the Broncos in the opener.
NFL Free Week 1 Score Prediction: Chargers 17 – Broncos 13
Trevor Siemian is a possession quarterback who lacks big play ability. The Chargers pass rush with Bosa and Ingram should give him problems.
Los Angeles will have issues scoring, but expect them to come in and cover the three point spread Monday night.
