This battle may end up being a struggling starting QB vs a back-up, who could arguably be more effective than the starter opposite to him.
Kickoff is set for 10:00 AM PST in Kansas City, with Blake Bortles manning under center for the visiting Jacksonville Jaguars, where Kansas City starter Alex Smith remains in concussion protocol and it could be the back-up- Nick Foles- show.
Jacksonville Jaguars
Blake Bortles, the former #3 overall pick in the 2014 Draft, has vastly regressed this season and his mechanics look like a mess. It’s to the point where Bortles has hired and brought in an outside QB consultant to help him right his ship.

Bortles has thrown for 1,904 yards this year which is solid, but has thrown for just 12 TDs and has continuously missed on targets.
His completion percentage sits at an even 60.0, which is slightly up from last year but his passer rating has dropped to 80.3 in a year which he was expected to take another step forward in his development.
Allan Robinson graded as a top wideout in the league last season, but doesn’t even lead his team in receiving this year.

Allan Hurns in the man who stakes that claim, with 443 yards. Robinson has the most WR TDs for the Jags at three, but along with just 366 yards.
Jacksonville, who invested high draft picks in Jalen Ramsey, Dante Fowler Jr. and Myles Jack, was supposed to be vastly improved and one to fear.
This season so far, however, Jacksonville ranks 26th overall (tied with Carolina) in points-per-game allowed with an average of 28.0.
Kansas City Chiefs
The efficient starting QB for the Kansas City Chiefs, Alex Smith, suffered a concussion in week-8 and is questionable heading into week-9 as he’s in the league’s concussion protocol.
Should he not be able to play, the starting reigns will be handed to back up (and former starter in the NFL), Nick Foles.
Foles had a great game once taking over in week-8, completing 16 of his 22 passes for 223 yards, 2 TDs vs 0 INT and recording a passer rating of 135.2.
Now we shouldn’t expect this type of performance, but he is facing a mediocre defense (at best) and will be playing for a look at a starting gig in the future.
Foles also does have a career passer rating of 88.1.
The Chiefs are primarily a running team, although both of their options may be out for the contest this week. Spencer Ware has taken over the lead duties from Jamaal Charles, who has been struggling with a knee injury for the season.
Ware has performed admirably, but suffered a concussion of his own and is questionable. Charcandrick West would likely be the feature option if both Ware and Charles are out.

Along with their running game, the Chiefs defense is another one of their areas of strength. KC currently sits in 8th overall in point-per-game allowed with a mark of 19.6 on average.
They also allow just the 11th most yards overall on the year at a total of 2505 yards.
Marcus Peters once again leads the league in Interceptions with 5, after claiming that title a season ago.
NFL Betting Trends:
- No running back on Jacksonville has rushed for more than 220 yards on the year
- Jacksonville has a point differential of -57 on the season
- As a whole, Kansas City has the 8th highest passer rating at 97.5
- Jacksonville is tied for 4th more interceptions throw with nine
- Kansas City is undefeated at home this year at a perfect 3-0
