There are not usually a lot of division games in week one because they don’t need to schedule them to move the needle to get things started. Houston is a contender but not much is expected from Jacksonville.
Interesting contrast in this game at the quarterback position. Jacksonville has named Blake Bortles the starter but there is not a lot of confidence there. Tom Savage looks like the guy for Houston but Deshaun Watson is in the wings.

Adding to the context of this game is also the obvious fact that Houston is still recovering from Hurricane Harvey.
There are lots of situations where a club rallies for their community but there are no guarantees.
Houston has to be considered the favorite in the division thanks to a strong defense. The line here is in that terrible in between range but there is lots of time for movement.
Jacksonville Jaguars
When Gus Bradley took over in Jacksonville there was good optimism. Coming out of the successful Seattle program it was thought he could energize the Jaguars back to respectability.
It didn’t happen and now they are hoping Tom Coughlin and Doug Marrone can get the team headed towards respectability.
It seemed like Bradley never really established an identity in Jacksonville. We know what Coughlin in all about but will his “toughness” still win the day when he is not walking the sidelines.
I am not sure what the identify of this team is going to be.

It might not have been their biggest need but the Jags went with Leonard Fournette in the first round to lead then back to relevance.
He might wind up being a franchise back but I feel there is more about everything but his running so far since he hit the NFL and the team is not exactly brimming with offensive talent to make it easier for him.
The Jags are always a trendy pick to improve but that is because they are always starting so low.
A win would make a huge splash (and there is a lot of water in Houston – sorry if that is insensitive to the folks down there).
Houston Texans
The AFC South is going to be interesting this season. Houston seems like the favorite but this is far from a perfect team.
Though if you read SI you will be believing they were this close to upsetting the Patriots in the playoffs a year ago.
J.J. Watt is one of the most impactful players in the league, perhaps the most. He was barely on the field a year ago but looks healthy coming into the season.
Even without him they have a good defense but with him they can be among the best in the league.

That will be a good thing because I am not totally sold on their offense. DeAndre Hopkins just signed a major deal but I am not sure he is in that highest level of receivers.
Don’t get me wrong he is very good and has certainly been very productive.
At QB Tom Savage looks like he will get the job by default to start the season. Watson is the name you know but they seem set on starting with Savage.
Unfortunately for Watson they can win with him.
I am excited to see what one of their other top picks can do, RB D’Onte Foreman. He seems like he could be key to the pitching and defense approach Houston seems likely to employ this season.

4* Free NFL Betting Pick: Texans -5
There will be a lot of emotion for this one. It’s the opener and we all know about what the city of Houston has been through of late. Houston in definitely the better team though and even though the emotion will help they won’t need it.
NFL Free Week 1 Score Prediction: Houston 27 – Jacksonville 13
The Texans have won six in a row against Jacksonville but last year’s games were close.
They generally tend to be low scoring games between these but with such low totals they have cashed on the over in 4 of the last 5.
Houston to win is a nice parlay and you might want to tease that number to get it in the right range. Lots of good options here.
