As great as Kansas City has looked all season you have to wonder a little about a first time starting QB in the playoffs. Mahomes has not seen everything just yet.
Indianapolis Colts
Early in the season Andrew Luck did’t look great and the Colts were playing terrible defense. They were actually 1-5 at one point before “figuring it out”.
Since that low point they are 10-1 including the playoff. They have not given up more than 28 points in a game and looked very sharp in winning at Houston. Especially on defense.

If you go by rating Andrew Luck just completed his best season in the NFL. It took a while for him to get going and he is not perfect but he can make plays and the running game is a factor too.
In some ways the defense has been the story this season. They only gave up 7 points last week and finished 10th in points allowed. They might not be loaded with monsters but they are more than getting the job done.
Kansas City Chiefs
The Chiefs had another great regular season. Not quite perfect thanks to Kareem Hunt but they are poised to have success in the playoffs.
There are two lingering questions though as the Divisional Round begins. The first is how Patrick Mahomes will follow up his epic first year as a starter. The second is whether a defense that was 31st in yards allowed can give him a chance.

Mahomes was brilliant this season, there is no debate there and it looks like he will have a great career. However, a first playoff game was not such a great experience for players like Lamar Jackson last week. He is better than Jackson but has to rise to the occasion too.
The defense will be critical too. Does some extra time to rest and prepare let them develop a good game plan? In all of their losses the Chiefs gave up a lot of points and even though they can win a back and forth game that is a lot of pressure. .
