The Detroit Lions are fresh off of a big victory in New Orleans, beating their division rivals 28-13 on the road and essentially locking up a division title.
Kickoff is set for 1:25 PM in Detroit, with QB Matt Stafford and his Lions having the comfort of home cooking, while facing a visiting Bears team who will be led by third-string QB, Matt Barkley.
Chicago Bears
It’s been a terrible year for the Chicago Bears, losing a lot of key players to injury from what was already a thin roster with limited talent.
Starting and back-up QBs, Brian Hoyer and Jay Cutler, are both currently sidelined with injuries, so the reigns have been forced into the hands of Matt Barkley.

Barkley, a 4th round selection by Philadelphia in 2013, has a 51.7% completion rate and a 3:4 TD:INT rate on the year, with a 65.7 passer rating. Simply put, he is not a quality NFL quarterback.
The receiving corps has taken a huge hit with the loss of Alshon Jeffrey, who has been out for multiple weeks and yet still leads the team in receiving yards with 630.
The Bears also lost young talent, Kevin White, and TE Zach Miller for the year, as the talent now wears thin with the likes of a starting squad that looks like Cameron Meredith, Eddie Royal and Marquess Wilson.

The Bears defense, once the most renowned attributes of any team during their heyday, has at least improved on their terrible season last year.
They currently sit in 16th overall in points per game allowed with and average at 22.5 and sit 7th overall in total yards allowed at 3,922.
Detroit Lions
Veteran QB, Matt Stafford, has helped his Detroit Lions to a first place spot in the NFC North, and are on the cusp of playoffs with an 8-4 record.
Matt Stafford is arguably having one of his most complete seasons in his career, looking more comfortable to spread the ball around after the departure of Calvin Johnson.
Stafford has thrown for 3,224 yards and 21 TDs as opposed to just 5 INTs this year.
He has a passer rating of 100.5, and while he hasn’t put up video game numbers like his 5,000+ yard passing years, he’s been a steady leader and has guided his club towards a playoff berth.
Golden Tate is coming off of a massive game in New Orleans, with 145 yards on eight receptions and a TD. He now sits atop the Lions’ receivers with 762 yards and targets with 95.
Marvin Jones, Eric Ebron and Anquon Boldin complete the veteran receiving corps, with Theo Riddick providing a talented backfield option as well.

The Lions defense has continued to get better as the year goes on, as evidenced by their improvement from allowing 100+ rushing yards in six of their first eight games, but now haven’t allowed fewer than 85 in each of their past four games.
They enter the game after allowing just 13 points to one of the most potent offenses in the entire league and not allowing a passing TD to Drew Brees, breaking his 60-game consecutive record of doing so in home games.
NFL Betting Trends:
- Detroit is 5-1 at home
- Detroit has a point differential of +24 on the year
- Matt Stafford has the 6th best passer rating this season at 100.5
- Chicago beat Detroit 17-14 in their earlier meeting this year, however the injured Brian Hoyer started that game
- Chicago is winless on the road this season at 0-6
4* Free NFL Betting Prediction: Detroit -8.0
Chicago is bad and despite having a solid defense this year, their offense is one-dimensional now that they have to lean heavily on the run-game and keep the ball out of the hands of Matt Barkley as much as possible.
NFL Free Score Prediction: Chicago 17 – Detroit 28
I expect the division-leading Detroit team to have their way against the basement-dwelling Bears. Detroit is playing at home where they have gone 5-1, and face a Bears team who are winless on the road in six tries.
I like the Lions defense to continue their trend upwards and the offense to be able to put up enough points in a large time of possession to cover the spread.
