The Atlanta Falcons have won two in a row and did “move up” in the NFC South during their bye in Week 8 with Tampa Bay’s loss, which drops the Bucs into a tie for last place with the Falcons.

The Redskins won another close game, further proving that something is different this year in D.C. The ‘Skins are 5–2 and on top in the NFC East.
Atlanta Falcons
Atlanta got Week 8 off and while it did get out of sole-possession of last place, it fell further behind both the Saints and Panthers, who both won on Sunday.
The win was New Orleans’ sixth in a row. Carolina has won back-to-back games, just like the Falcons, who have dug themselves out of a 1–4 start and have a chance to get back to .500 in a road game against a division leader.

But the Falcons don’t feel like an underdog in this game, or at least not a significant one. Atlanta didn’t have the wildest of starts but the talent is clearly there. Now, it’s a matter of approaching every game with a sense of urgency and playing up to its potential.
The offense won’t have to score on every possession because Washington often plays low-scoring, close games. All it has to do is move the sticks a little bit and avoid turnovers. Often times, that can be a problem for Matt Ryan and his offense, which should be especially well-prepared this week, coming off the bye.
Washington Redskins
Washington again leaned heavily on Adrian Peterson, who caught his first touchdown in several years for the Redskins’ first touchdown in a 20–13 win. He rumbled sixty-four yards for the second to put the game away for good.
Peterson finished the game with twenty-six carries, tying a season high, and nearly 150 yards and those two touchdowns. He ran for 107 yards in the fourth quarter alone, after a crucial fumble that left the door open for New York.

Alex Smith and the passing game was again underwhelming. Smith failed to reach 200 yards for what wasn’t the first time this season. More often than now, he was looking underneath for tight end Jordan Reed, who caught seven balls for less than forty yards. Smith targeted Reed a dozen times in all.
But Washington’s defense was tremendous, sacking Eli Manning and intercepting him twice, both by DJ Swearinger, who has tied a career-high with four interceptions already.
The Giants tacked on a late touchdown with the game decided so the game wasn’t necessarily as close as the score indicates, and it was in New Jersey, but the Redskins aren’t going to get much respect in Vegas this week.

4* Free NFL Betting Prediction: Atlanta big, Washington small.
If I’m going to bet this one, I’m going to lay extra points with Atlanta in hopes of a bigger payout. The Falcons are more talented and much more well-rested (Washington is really banged up, though Jamison Crowder could be back).
The Saints pulverized Washington a few weeks ago and Atlanta could do the same, though this one is in Washington. If it’s close, though, it feels like Washington has that magic this year.
