2019 Houston Texans: Roster Changes
The Houston Texans went 11-5 and won the AFC South title. Houston’s season ended with a 21-7 loss to the Indianapolis Colts in the AFC Wild Card round. Unlike most teams in the NFL the Texas didn’t make big roster changes.
One of the biggest changes was the addition of Duke Johnson. Johnson had 201 rushing yards and 429 receiving yards with the Browns last season.
The Texans will call on Johnson and Alfred Blue to carry the load out the backfield. Lamar Miller’s injury (torn ACL) will certainly hurt the offense. The running back led the Texans with 973 rushing yards last season.
Houston recently acquired Kenny Stills via trade. With the Dolphins last season Stills had 553 receiving yards and six touchdowns.
On defense the Texans signed talented cornerback Bradley Roby who had a pair of good seasons in Denver the last two years. Safety Tashaun Gipson was also signed after playing well in Jacksonville.
The Texas did lose some talented defenders in Jadeveon Clowney, Kareem Jackson, and Tyrann Mathieu.

2019 Houston Texans Predictions: Offense
Last season the Texans were a strong offense that ranked 11th in the league in scoring (402 points). With Deshaun Watson leading the offense the Texans should be strong in the area. Watson made his first Pro Bowl last season. The star quarterback went for 4,165 passing yards, 26 touchdowns, and nine interceptions. Unlike most true quarterbacks Watson is an elite scrambler. He rushed for 551 yards and five touchdowns.
DeAndre Hopkins is one of the best receivers in all of football. Hopkins had 1,572 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns. The Texans also have a pair of reliable secondary receivers in Will Fuller and Kenny Stills.
The biggest question on offense is whether Duke Johnson can get the job done. He has shown signs of being a good receiver out the backfield but now it’s time for him to be a workhorse.

2019 Houston Texans Predictions: Defense
The Texans defense should be one of the better defenses in the league. The team ranked fourth in the league in points allowed (316).
J.J. Watt is one of the best players in all of football. He had 16 sacks last season and 24 tackles for loss.
Losing Jadeveon Clowney (9 sacks) to the Seahawks will hurt the Texans defense. However they did make some good additions on the outside with Roby and Gipson. Roby will replace Kareem Jackson and Gipson will replace Mathieu.
The Texans should be among the league leaders in sacks and should be a top-10 defense.
2019 Houston Texans Handicapping: (Strengths/Weaknesses)
Houston’s defense may be their strength as they have guys like Watt, Zach Cunningham, Roby and Gipson. It may not be as good as last season’s which ranked top 5 but it should be a top 10 as I mentioned before.
Their offense is strong due to two great talents in Watson and Hopkins. Both players can win you a game on that side of the ball. If Johnson can rush for around 1,000 yards the Texas will be a strong offense if not they’d likely be average.
Overall the Texans are one of the more balanced teams in the league. Look for them top be among the better half of the league on both sides of the ball.
2019 Houston Texans (Final Record Prediction): 9-7
The Miller injury will hurt the offense as Johnson and Blue aren’t as proven. Watson and a great receiving core led by Hopkins will make them dangerous. If it wasn’t for the Miller injury I’d have them winning 10 games.
It’s still possible they do but 9 games is a safer play. Look for the Texans to take one of the wild card spots and be a threat in a loaded AFC.
