2019 Chicago Bears Predictions: Roster Changes
With Vic Fangio leaving to coach the Denver Broncos, Chuck Pagano is now calling the shots on the defensive side of the ball. While there haven’t been significant changes to the system, will he pick up this season where the NFL’s number one defense left off last year?
On offense, the Bears leading rusher from last season is gone. With Jordan Howard now in Philadelphia, Chicago used a third-round draft pick to take running back David Montgomery from Iowa State University.

The Bears also used the draft to add on to the receiving corps, selecting Riley Ridley from Georgia University. While the youngster more than likely won’t become the go-to guy for Mitch Trubisky, he will be expected to have a solid season.
Oh yeah, there’s also a new kicker in town. After an intense preseason competition, Eddy Pineiro will be taking the place of Mr. Double Doink.
2019 Chicago Bears Predictions: Offense
As someone who follows the Chicago Bears closely, this is the year QB Mitch Trubisky needs to show up and show off. The man’s been given the weapons he needs to deliver and the offensive line should be more than healthy at the start of the season.
The Chicago offense failed to produce a 1,000-yard rusher last season, but Howard was close with 935. While Tarik Cohen didn’t receive as many carries in 2018 as Howard, he did average 4.5 yards a carry.
The running game will be key in 2019. Productive seasons this year from both Cohen and Montgomery will be a huge help for Mitch’s arm.
The tight end position will also play a huge role in the Bears passing attack. In 2018, Trey Burton was able to haul in 54 receptions for 569 yards and six touchdowns.
If Burton can get closer to 800 yards this year it will make things easier for Allen Robinson, Taylor Gabriel, and Riley Ridley at wide receiver.
2019 Chicago Bears Predictions: Defense
As I mentioned earlier, the most significant change on defense was Pagano taking over for Fangio.

In 2018, Chicago had the number one overall defense in the NFL. They were number one against the run and seventh in the league against the pass.
Look for those numbers to be just as good, if not better against the pass, this season. The Bears had 27 interceptions as a squad last year and 50 sacks. With so much attention on Khalil Mack and the other linebackers, there’s no reason for Akiem Hicks and Eddie Goldman not to get in the backfield quicker from their spots on the defensive line.
With so much focus on keeping the Bears away from the QB, newly acquired Ha Ha Clinton-Dix and the secondary should be able to have a field day almost every game.
2019 Chicago Bears Handicapping: (Strengths/Weaknesses)
There’s no secret concerning the strength of the Chicago Bears. The Monsters of the Midway are back in full force and should eat up opposing offenses this season, regardless of who’s standing on the sideline telling them what to do.
The Bears weakness is the same as it was last season. If Chicago isn’t able to depend on their kicker, Matt Nagy will be forced to make decisions with the football he normally wouldn’t.
If quarterback Mitch Trubisky isn’t ready to step and prove he was the right decision for the Bears when he was drafted, it could be another short playoff visit. I think Mitch will get all the help he needs from Chicago’s running game.
2019 Chicago Bears Prediction (Final Record): 12-4
That’s right. I said it. The Bears will win the NFC North this year. They’ll have no problem winning at least four of their six divisional games.
They will take care of the Eagles in Philly week eight.
Zeke won’t be a threat when the Cowboys come to Soldier Field in week 13 and I don’t think the Chiefs will handle being hit very hard in the cold week 15.
