2017 Redskins Season Preview & NFL Futures Lines
Looking for 2017 Washington Redskins predictions? We’ve got your back. While much of the headlines made by Washington in the offseason revolved around the eventual departure of general manager Scot McCloughan, there were still a lot of roster moves made by this team, and some pretty significant ones at that. The team continues to hang on to quarterback Kirk Cousins on a one-year basis, and for as long as they continue to do that, they’ll remain in the hunt for a possible playoff seed.

2017 Washington Redskins Predictions: Roster Changes
The team has relied so much on its passing game in recent years, and that unit will receive a major upgrade this season with the departure of Pierre Garcon and DeSean Jackson.
Cousins’ understanding of Jay Gruden’s offense is what’s made this team go the past couple of seasons, and now he’ll be the one running the shoe with those key veterans out of town.

The team did make a splash at the position, signing Terrelle Pryor away from the Cleveland Browns after the former Ohio State quarterback had a career year catching the pigskin. Linebackers Stacy McGee and Terrell McClain were also added, as was safety D.J. Swearinger.
The early draft focus was on defense, with the team’s top three picks all residing on that side of the ball, most notably first round defensive lineman Jonathan Allen out of Alabama.
2017 Washington Redskins Predictions: Offense
Jay Gruden’s offense requires a lot of diversity from the receiving options, and Pryor should step in nicely to the roll Garcon occupied, with last year’s first-round pick Josh Doctson stepping in for Jackson has the deep threat.
Tight end Jordan Reed flies a bit under the radar, but he’s the real key piece of this passing offense as a matchup nightmare for opposing defenses, and a player who is dynamic all over the field.

Passing the ball will be the team’s key once again, but the running game should be improved with the emergence of Rob Kelley, while fourth-round pick Samaje Perine should push Kelley, and he could eventually take over the starting gig even as a rookie.
2017 Washington Redskins Predictions: Defense
The Washington defense is going to have a really different look to it this season after a year in which the unit ranked in the bottom 10 both against the pass and the run.
Both starting defensive ends are gone, while Allen, McClain, and McGee should all have starting jobs up front from day one. Former Buffalo Bills linebacker Zach Brown will be asked to do a lot in the middle of the defense, while Su’a Cravens will make the full-time move to safety after shuffling in and out of there as a rookie, with Swearinger occupying the other starting safety spot.
2017 Washington Redskins Handicapping: (Strengths/Weaknesses)
The passing offense remains both a strength and a weakness for this team. Cousins has a way of both looking pedestrian for much of games and still putting up big numbers by the end of them in Jay Gruden’s very quarterback-friendly offense.
They should be better at running the ball with the duo of Kelley and Perine battling for touches.

The defense was not able to accomplish much last season. With all attention turned on the unit following the surprise acquisition of cornerback Josh Norman, the group was a major disappointment. It’s tough to imagine that group being much better this season.
Washington finished third in total yards from scrimmage last season, but also ranked 29th in red zone efficiency, finishing 12th in the league in scoring, meaning a lot of those yards were for not.
2017 Washington Redskins Prediction (Final Record): 7-9
The Redskins continue to roll out the same model year after year. At some point they’re going to figure out what they are, take a step back from Cousins, and try to rebuild.
But as long as they continue to roll with this formula, they’ll continue to struggle in finding success on the field.
