2017 Tennessee Titans Predictions: Roster Changes
The story of the Titans’ offseason actually begins last offseason.
GM Jon Robinson made one of the more one-sided trades in NFL history, taking advantage of the Rams’ desire to make a splash as they made their move to Los Angeles and trading away the No. 1 overall pick in the 2016 draft, which Los Angeles used on Cal quarterback Jared Goff.
Those extra picks acquired in that trade have been used to help bolster the team’s top end talent. Using the Rams’ No. 5 overall selection in this year’s draft, Robinson added wide receiver Corey Davis out of Western Michigan.
Davis immediately moves to the top of the Titans’ wide receiver depth chart after averaging 88 receptions, 1448 yards, and 15 touchdowns in college.

Robinson wasn’t done there, adding wide receiver Taywan Taylor in the third round. With Kendall Wright out of town, those guys will be running the show at the position.
Continuing with the team’s trend of getting more athletic at the skill positions, Robinson used the Titans’ own first round pick on USC cornerback Adoree’ Jackson, who also moonights as a return man, accumulating four special teams touchdowns as a junior.
The teams additions came via free agency as well, with Robinson adding a pair of 26 year olds to the secondary, prying cornerback Logan Ryan away from the New England Patriots, and safety Johnathan Cyprien from the division rival Jacksonville Jaguars.
2017 Tennessee Titans Predictions: Offense
In an era in which passing games are dominating the league, the Titans are a throwback offensively, with Mike Mularkey fielding a run-heavy offense that leans on DeMarco Murray and Derrick Henry to move the offense.

In the middle of that, Marcus Mariota enjoyed a breakout 2016 campaign before suffering a broken right leg in Week 16. He’s still recovering from that injury, and has yet to play a full 16-game schedule.
His pass-catchers received a big boost after the team ranked 25th in passing offense a year ago.
2017 Tennessee Titans Predictions: Defense
The team overhauled a pass defense that was one of the worst in the league, and a new look secondary will look to turn that group around. The team signed Ryan and Cyprien, and Jackson in the first round to help stabilize that group.
2017 Tennessee Titans Handicapping: (Strengths/Weaknesses)
The running game remains the strength of this team, helping turn around a team that went 3-13 in 2015 to one that went 9-7 in 2016. That running game ranked third in the league a year ago, helping jumpstart Murray’s career.
A year after he was cast off by the Philadelphia Eagles he led the AFC in rushing yards.

There’s a chance Mariota isn’t ready for Week 1 as he continues to recover from that broken leg. They’ll be in big trouble if they’re rolling with Matt Cassel in the early part of the season.
2017 Tennessee Titans Prediction (Final Record): 7-9
There’s a big difference between the way the Titans are entering this season and the way they did last season. A year after finishing dead last in the NFL with a 3-13 record, the Titans now enter coming off a 9-7 and with playoff aspirations.
The AFC South has gotten better, and while Robinson did another solid job of bolstering the roster in the offseason, the Titans won’t be catching anyone by surprise this year.
There’s better value on the futures board elsewhere for those looking at teams in the middle of the pack.
