While that means there weren’t any over the top additions elsewhere with so much cash going to those big contracts, the Steelers are confident in that trio’s ability to keep their offense moving in what’s been the most fun offense in the NFL over the past few seasons.
2017 Pittsburgh Steelers Predictions: Roster Changes
The Steelers made an uncharacteristic move last season, diving into the free agent waters and signing tight end Ladarius Green away from the Chargers.
That move was a bust, and the Steelers stayed away from the big name free agents this offseason. Outside linebacker T.J. Watt was selected in the first round to be the heir apparent to James Harrison.

Second round pick JuJu Smith-Schuster will be a good addition out of the slot, but he’s not the wide receiver to be writing home about – that’s Martavis Bryant, who was suspended for the entire 2016 season, further bolstering a wide receiver group that was short on talent a year ago behind Brown, even with the emergence of Eli Rogers.
DeAngelo Williams is gone, but Pitt running back James Conner was added in the third round to compete for that No. 2 running back gig.
The biggest offseason loss was Lawrence Timmons, who not only left, but the player the team targeted to replace him – Don’t’a Hightower – took less money to stay in New England.
2017 Pittsburgh Steelers Predictions: Offense
The Pittsburgh offense is going to be explosive in 2017. A full 16 games from Bell and Brown have them in competition for the league lead in rushing and receiving yards respectively.
Keeping Roethlisberger on the field for 16 games is probably wishful thinking given his playing style, but with Bryant back in the fold, this unit is going to put up a ton of points even when a face or two is missing from the lineup.

The offensive line has the potential to be the best in the league, and it’s what allows Bell to employ that patient running style that’s become his signature.
2017 Pittsburgh Steelers Predictions: Defense
This defense has added a lot of young players in recent years, and those guys are starting to come into their own.
The loss of Timmons playing opposite Ryan Shazier at inside linebacker is going to demand some adjustments from the coaching staff, but Mike Tomlin’s always preached “next-man-up,” so it’s on Vince Williams to be that guy.
Getting defensive end Cameron Heyward back from that torn pectoral early in the season will be key on that side of the ball. He’s just so important to them.
2017 Pittsburgh Steelers Handicapping: (Strengths/Weaknesses)
The Steelers are going to be able to deliver a lot of quick scores against even the best defenses the National Football League has to offer.
That’s where this team’s bread is buttered, and keeping that engine revving is going to be important all year long.

The Steelers’ defensive secondary was really exposed by the Patriots in Foxborough last season.
That group had been able to hold together pretty well for much of the year prior to that, but if they’re going to fall apart against, of all teams, the Patriots, Pittsburgh’s Super Bowl aspirations will be zapped.
2017 Pittsburgh Steelers Prediction (Final Record): 12-4
The AFC North has slanted heavily in favor of the Steelers in recent years, with the Bengals and Ravens falling back, and the Browns remaining an afterthought.
This year’s edition could be the best offering we’ve seen from the Steelers in recent memory, as they’ll send out what may be the most talented offense in football. Consider the Steelers in all futures betting categories.
