2017 Dolphins Season Preview & NFL Futures Lines
Looking for 2017 Miami Dolphins predictions? We’ve got your back. The Miami Dolphins have put their trust in Adam Gase to lead the organization in the right direction, and that’s never been more evident than with the handling of impending free agent Kenny Stills. Set to hit the open market, the Dolphins locked up Stills before free agency opened, agreeing to a four-year, $32 million deal with a player who’s quickly developed a very close relationship with the coach.

By all accounts, that’s more money than Stills would have received from another team, but the Dolphins have put their faith in Gase, and only time will tell if that trust was deserved.
2017 Miami Dolphins Predictions: Roster Changes
While the Dolphins kept Stills in the fold, they’ve put an end to the failed Jordan Cameron experiment by trading to acquire Julius Thomas from the Jacksonville Jaguars to be their new starting tight end.
Thomas is best known for his touchdown prowess while playing with Peyton Manning in Denver, but he hasn’t seen that kind of success in two seasons since leaving the Broncos.
They helped their 30th-ranked run defense with the signing of linebacker Lawrence Timmons, and traded for defensive lineman William Hayes, who’ll partner with first-round pick Charles Harris along the defensive line.

While there weren’t any free agent splashes like we saw a couple of years ago with Mike Wallace and Ndamukong Suh – a staple of Stephen Ross’ tenure – the team focused on keeping players currently on the roster, like Stills, defensive end Andre Branch, safety Reshad Jones, and linebacker Koko Alonso.
With that said, offensive tackle Branden Albert left for greener pastures, and the team opted to cut ties with defensive end Mario Williams after a disappointing first campaign in South Beach.
2017 Miami Dolphins Predictions: Offense
The Dolphins’ offense will again have Ryan Tannehill at the controls. His health will be key to the team this season as he recovers from a late-season ACL injury that did not require surgery. He’ll be playing with many of the same pass-catchers as a year ago, with a little more familiarity in Gase’s system.

The breakout player from a year ago was Jay Ajayi, who will draw the focus of opposing defenses after racking up 1,272 rushing yards in 2016.
He’ll be leaned on heavily, but the next player targeted for a breakout on this roster is 2015 first-round pick DeVante Parker, who enters his third season in the league.
He’ll still be out targeted by Jarvis Landry, but if he can help stretch the field, that would make this offense far more dynamic.
2017 Miami Dolphins Predictions: Defense
With Hayes and Harris joining Suh and Cameron Wake along the defensive line, the Dolphins could field a quality front four, which would help wonders in the running game where they really struggled last season, and also in getting to the quarterback.
2017 Miami Dolphins Handicapping: (Strengths/Weaknesses)
The offense has a good number of pieces in place at the skill positions, and Gase has proven he can get the most out of this group. If Ajayi can continue to keep up his pace from a season ago, and Parker takes the next step in his third year, this could be a dynamic unit.

The defense was atrocious against the run last season, and they may have needed more in the way of reinforcements from the front office, but nevertheless, that should be an improved unit.
2017 Miami Dolphins Prediction (Final Record): 8-8
After last season’s surprise playoff appearance, expectations will be higher on the Dolphins, but this is largely still a group that was expected to finish in the bottom-10 a year ago.
With that said, Gase has quickly gotten this group to buy into his vision, and has found a way to get the most out of his players week in and week out. While they’re still a number of key pieces away from joining the AFC’s elite teams, they’ll have a chance to win more often than not.
