2017 Texans Season Preview & NFL Futures Lines
Looking for 2017 Houston Texans predictions? We’ve got your back. What a strange season the Houston Texans just had. They won their division, won a playoff game, and no one is viewing what was accomplished as a successful season. In fact, the team gave away starting quarterback Brock Osweiler for nothing, even donating a second round pick to the Cleveland Browns just to get him off the books and erase their mistake.

The team then made a bold move in the draft by trading up to acquire Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson in the first round, hoping that he’ll finally fill their void at quarterback.
With the rest of the AFC South having gotten better this offseason, winning the division won’t be the cakewalk it was last year, so the learning curve at quarterback will have to be quick.
2017 Houston Texans Predictions: Roster Changes
Texans general manager Rick Smith deserves a lot of credit for the move he made with the Browns, borrowing a note from his NBA peers and incentivizing Cleveland with a draft pick to take Osweiler’s contract off his hands in exchange for very little in return.

Moving Osweiler leaves the starting quarterback reins in the hands of incumbent Tom Savage, who may need to start the season under center if Watson isn’t ready to call the shots on offense.
The team also spent a third-round pick on D’Onta Foreman to add some consistency behind Lamar Miller.
The team took some hits in the defensive secondary, with both cornerback A.J. Bouye and safety Quintin Demps leaving for greener pastures.
2017 Houston Texans Predictions: Offense
The question marks for the Texans remain under center. That’s the position that’s kept them from making it to the next level come playoff time year in and year out.
Bill O’Brien’s last two seasons with the team have seen the likes of Brian Hoyer, Ryan Mallett, T.J. Yates, Brandon Weeden, Brock Osweiler, and Tom Savage take snaps for him. Now there’ll be some consistency once Watson is ready to assume the role.

The offensive skill positions are headlined by two of the top players at their respective positions in the league. DeAndre Hopkins had a bit of a rough go of it last season as the team’s poor quarterback play led to a decline in his numbers, but he should be in a for a bounce back.
And running back Lamar Miller didn’t have the statistical breakout many expected, but he saw a carry high in carries in only 14 games and showed glimpses of the explosiveness that made him such a coveted free agent target a year ago.
2017 Houston Texans Predictions: Defense
The headline on the Texans’ defense is the return of a healthy J.J. Watt. Although, even without him, the team finished with the No. 1 ranked defense in 2017.
But it will be fun to finally see Watt and Jadeveon Clowney paired up and wreaking havoc on opposing quarterbacks. The defensive secondary took some hits in the offseason, but there’s a lot of depth there. Those guys will need to step into more prominent roles.
2017 Houston Texans Handicapping: (Strengths/Weaknesses)
The Texans’ pass rush should be solid, and they remain one of the most talented teams in the league at the offensive skill positions.

Quarterback remains the biggest question mark on the roster, even if Watson does solidify the position somewhere down the line. The defensive secondary also could face some issues as it works in some new faces.
2017 Houston Texans Prediction (Final Record): 9-7
The Texans appear to be in for a step back before they can take a step forward. This remains a team to watch, but temper your expectations.
There are probably better values on the board than backing the Texans to repeat as AFC South champions, and they’re a year or two away from getting back into mix as true AFC contenders.
