The Bears could be one of the dark horse teams in the NFC, potentially flirting with a .500 record and maybe making some early noise for a wild card spot. That’s all going to depend on what kind of job John Fox can do in his third year as head coach.
2017 Chicago Bears Predictions: Roster Changes
The Bears’ offseason roster changes are headlined by the wrecking ball that was taken to the team’s passing game.
Quarterback Jay Cutler’s first season in Chicago had him looking like the savior this franchise has desperately needed at the position for decades, culminating with an appearance in the NFC title game. His tenure ends unceremoniously with him getting booed out of town and into the broadcast booth.
Top wide receiver Alshon Jeffery was allowed to walk, as was fellow wide receiver Eddie Royal. Even backup quarterback Brian Hoyer, who saw a handful of starts in Cutler’s absence and performed admirably, signed a free agent deal with San Francisco.

The team brought in highly coveted quarterback Mike Glennon on a big money deal that allows the team to cut bait in 2018 if it chooses.
The future at the position will be Mitchell Trubisky, the No. 2 overall pick out of North Carolina who the Bears traded up to acquire, making him the first quarterback off the board.
The players that will need to pick up the slack in the passing game are tight end Dion Sims and wide receivers Victor Cruz and Kendall Wright, each of whom were signed to free agent deals.
2017 Chicago Bears Predictions: Offense
This offense belongs to Glennon, for now, while Trubisky holds a clipboard. Glennon caught the eye of a lot of pro scouts during his time in Tampa Bay, and was the most highly coveted free agent quarterback this offseason, and while the Bears were able to bring him in, they also spent a bounty in acquiring Trubisky.
While he may not be the day one starter, all eyes will be on him.

The guy that will make this offense go is running back Jordan Howard, who churned out 1,313 yards on the ground last season as a rookie, second most in the league.
Young wide receivers Kevin White and Cameron Meredith both have the potential to break out this campaign.
2017 Chicago Bears Predictions: Defense
The biggest question marks on the Bears roster are on defense. The front seven is strong, but the secondary will again be a major hole.
The team went out and spent a bunch of money to bring in some new faces to help resurrect that group, but it’s tough to imagine them being much better than they were a year ago.
2017 Chicago Bears Handicapping: (Strengths/Weaknesses)
Someone is going to emerge at wide receiver, so couple that with Howard and the offensive skill positions will be just fine for the Bears. Who will be getting them the ball is a whole other story.

The defense continues to remain an issue, no matter how much money the front office throws at it. Prince Amukamara and Quintin Demps are nice adds on paper, but everyone that’s put on a Bears jersey the last five years or so seems to forget how to cover.
2017 Chicago Bears Prediction (Final Record): 5-11
This team has the potential to be really, really bad, or it can surprise a lot of people and wind up in the middle of the pack. How the quarterback situation plays out will likely determine how quickly the coaching staff shifts its focus to next season.
