2017 Ravens Season Preview & NFL Futures Lines
Looking for 2017 Baltimore Ravens predictions? We’ve got your back. The Baltimore Ravens are a team that’s been in a tough spot for years – not good enough to truly compete for a title, not bad enough to back their way into a high draft pick. There’s also the feeling that there’s some sentiment from general manager Ozzie Newsome towards some of the veteran players on the team, as well as head coach John Harbaugh, and he’s not willing to blow up the roster and rebuild, feeling some loyalty toward those individuals and trying to hang at least in the playoff hunt.

The team made some minor improvements in the offseason, but still not enough to be a threat to the elite teams in the AFC.
2017 Baltimore Ravens Predictions: Roster Changes
The Ravens continue to lack depth on their roster after spending a long time with that as their calling card.
The offseason was largely about getting more athletic on the defensive side of the ball. Cornerback Marlon Humphrey was selected in the first round of the draft and linebacker Tyus Bowser was selected in the second round to address the team’s two biggest needs.
Those two marked the start of the team using its first four draft picks on defensive players.

The free agency dollars also found their way onto the defense, with cornerback Brandon Carr and safety Tony Jefferson joining that unit. That leaves Joe Flacco’s supporting cast of skill position players pretty thin, with only Danny Woodhead added to the offense.
Steve Smith retired, and right tackle Ricky Wagner signed a rich deal to go to Detroit. Other veterans Elvis Dumervil, Kamar Aiken, and Matt Elam all walked as well as the team begins to get younger and more athletic.
2017 Baltimore Ravens Predictions: Offense
Joe Flacco’s the man in Baltimore. In an era where most other top flight quarterbacks are taking less money to help build up their supporting casts, Flacco took the cash, and it shows with his lack of depth at the skill positions.
Flacco’s $24.5 million cap hit in 2017 is the largest in the league, and represents 15 percent of the Raven’s active cap space.

The lack of assistance from the front office means players already on the roster will need to step up. Former first round pick wide receiver Breshad Perriman enters his third season, as does tight end Maxx Williams.
Both players possess a ton of upside, but both have dealt with knee injuries and missed large portions of their first two campaigns.
2017 Baltimore Ravens Predictions: Defense
While the front office wasn’t much help to the offense during the offseason, it did fill in a lot of gaps on a defense that’s already strong. Defensive coordinator Dean Pees had this unit ranked inside the top 10 in just about every significant category in 2016, building the unit around stud inside linebacker C.J. Mosely.
2017 Baltimore Ravens Handicapping: (Strengths/Weaknesses)
Just as it was in the early 2000’s, this roster is all about defense. This group got younger in the offseason, but that’s not a bad thing, as those young players are going to fill in some voids and add some much needed speed, athleticism, and explosiveness to the unit.

The offense is a big step back of where it’s been even in recent years, and the front office’s lack of attention to this group was very surprising.
A healthy Danny Woodhead would be a great addition, and if guys like Perriman and Williams can stay healthy, there are a decent number of playmakers, but adding explosiveness onto the offensive side of the ball may be next year’s front office target.
2017 Baltimore Ravens Prediction (Final Record): 7-9
The defense played above itself last season, and while there’s hope that unit could be even better this season, in all likelihood, the offense will hold this team back yet again.
