2016-2017 49ers Preview & NFL Future Lines
Looking for 2016 San Francisco 49ers Predictions? We’ve got your back. Is there any more dysfunction team than the 49ers heading into the 2016 NFL season? Seriously – adding Chip Kelly to an organization that puts up with Jed York and Trent Baalke is reality-TV type stuff! The only thing better would be for Donald Trump to own the team. But I digress!

2016 San Francisco 49ers Roster Changes
You can’t make 2016 San Francisco 49ers predictions without examining roster changes. The San Francisco 49ers will try to somehow build of a horrendous 2015 season that saw them go just 5-11.
The 49ers look like they will go with Blaine Gabbert in Chip Kelly’s high octane offense – not even the new Head Coach seems to want anything to do with Colin Kaepernick.
The offense on paper looks poor and the defense doesn’t seem much better.
Is there any hope for a competitive team in San Francisco in 2016-2017? Let’s take a look.
2016 San Francisco 49ers Predictions: Offense
If it weren’t bad enough that 49ers fans are forced to suffer through a season of the timid, scared Blaine Gabbert behind center but a look at the weapons at his disposal could make a guy cry.

Sure there’s Torrey Smith and OK #1 receiving option but he was awful last season. Behind him are Quinton Patton, Bruce Ellington and DeAndrew White embarrassing as it sounds.
The underwhelming Gabbert will have zero weapons at his disposal in 2016 – zero!
Let’s be honest the only way that Chip Kelly’s system works is if he has immense talent around him.
LeSean McCoy, Jeremy Maclin and DeSean Jackson made Kelly look like a genius but once those guys were gone from Philadelphia, the college system was seriously exposed.
Kelly and Gabbert won’t have near Philadelphia’s weapons in their offense – a struggle is a certainty this year.
The 49ers absolutely have to hope that Carlos Hyde can find another gear – he was good at the beginning of last season only to rapidly drop off after Week 3 and to sustain a stress fracture in Week 7 that ended his season.

Simply put Hyde is a bit of a question mark heading into the season – his health and his ability to gain more than 3.6 YPC (which he did last year) are huge concerns for a team that will have to get the most of what is likely only a few rushing opportunities.
The 49ers O-line is also an issue. Outside of left tackle Joe Staley there isn’t a whole lot to like.
The talented Anthony Davis has vowed to never play for Trent Baalke again, Alex Boone left in free agency, Trent Brown is terrible, and center Daniel Kilgore was one of the worst players at his position last year.
Yikes!
2016 San Francisco 49ers Predictions: Defense
At least the 49ers can rely on their defense – right? Wrong! The D-line could be OK thanks to Baalke’s limited wisdom in spending their first round picks the last couple of years on the D-line.
Erik Armstead and DeForest Buckner could be OK alongside hose tackle Ian Williams, who could be the best player on this defense.
But the rest of the Defense ain’t good folks – Jimmie Ward will enter the season as the best of the secondary and that isn’t saying much. Tramaine Brock and Dontae Johnson will fill out a secondary that will give up its share of yards for sure.
NaVarro Bowman anchors a linebacking unit that lost Patrick Willis and Chris Borland last year and suffered.
NaVarro, who was awful last year after his horrific knee injury in 2014, will be the best of a bad lot. I mean have you ever heard of Gerald Hodges, Shayne Skov and Michael Wilhoite?
Didn’t’ think so.

The safety position just may be the best part of the defense for San Francisco but that isn’t saying much.
Eric Reed is OK but Antoine Bethea, now 32 looks as though he is in serious decline. 2015 second round pick Jaquiski Tartt wasn’t great either last year – hopes are that he takes a major step this year.
2016 San Francisco 49ers Analysis:
The 49ers are a pretty bad team – period! Those who think that Chip Kelly is the answer have another thing coming.
Hopefully for fans this is the last year they have to endure Jed York and Trent Baalke in the Bay. San Francisco is a 3-13 team, maybe a 4-14 club in 2016 – back to the drawing board for a once proud franchise.
