2016 Minnesota Vikings Handicapping
Well, the Vikings did a complete 180 last year and are now good enough to get something done for a future Hall of Fame running back who has just one playoff victory to his name.
That turnaround started with the hire of Cincinnati Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer two years ago.
The team’s done a good job filling out its defense for its defensive-minded head coach. Couple that with some good drafting and all of a sudden the Vikings are in position to make some noise in the NFC.
2016 Vikings Roster Changes
The Vikings signed guard Alex Boone and tackle Andre Smith to bolster an offensive line in need of an upgrade. If they intend to run the ball as often as they did last season, those moves should pay for themselves.
In the first round, the Vikings added wide receiver Laquon Treadwell out of Ole Miss. He joins a receiving corps short on talent, so it’s possible he becomes a focal point of the passing game sooner rather than later.

Mike Wallace left to sign with the Baltimore Ravens and threw some shade at his former quarterback in the process.
He’s a deep threat and that just didn’t fit what the Vikings are trying to do, nor does it fit the rest of the personnel.
A big bodied wideout who isn’t afraid to contribute in the running game as a blocker is a better fit, and Treadwell is that.
2016 Minnesota Vikings Predictions: Offense
Peterson is 31 years old. He’s rushed the ball 2,381 times in the NFL. He led the NFL with 327 carries last season – and those are never easy carries for a back that loves contact.
But he also led the league with 1,485 rushing yards, making him the second-oldest player to win the rushing title, behind only Curtis Martin who did it as a 31-year-old in 2004.

But he did slow as the season went on last year, totaling 366 yards on 113 carries over the final six games, including playoffs. In those six games, he averaged 3.2 yards per carry.
It’s possible that was nothing, but we can’t just write off slumps anymore now that he’s 31 years old.
Teddy Bridgewater had a strong rookie season, but last year with Peterson back he was just a passenger while Peterson drove the bus.
Bridgewater threw for only 14 touchdown passes and averaged just 27.9 attempts per game (only the Buffalo Bills’ Tyrod Taylor averaged fewer among regular starters).
2016 Minnesota Vikings Predictions: Defense
There’s just so much talent here. The team could legitimately send nine guys to the Pro Bowl on the defensive side of the ball, and that all goes back to good drafting.
Xavier Rhodes and Trae Waynes were first round picks in 2013 and 2015, respectively, and they’re both ready to become a dominant tandem at the position.

The defensive line consists of Linval Joseph, Sharrif Floyd, Everson Griffen, and Danielle Hunter, who’s coming off a strong rookie campaign.
None of those guys would be out of place at the Pro Bowl.
Harrison Smith may be the best safety in football, and linebacker Anthony Barr, the No. 9 overall selection in 2014, is another example of the team picking the right guy.
2016 Minnesota Vikings Analysis:
The Vikings move into their new stadium this season, and they’ll do it in style, with one of the best teams they’ve fielded in since Daunte Culpepper, Randy Moss, and Cris Carter were playing in the NFC title game.
The Vikings have a real shot at 10 or 11 wins and a division crown this season.
