2016-2017 Texans Preview & NFL Future Lines
Looking for 2016 Houston Texans Predictions? We’ve got your back. The Houston Texans closed out the 2016 regular season on a 7-2 run to make the playoffs, despite a revolving door at quarterback that saw Brian Hoyer, Ryan Mallett, T.J. Yates, and Brandon Weeden each see time under center. Once they got to the postseason, the team’s lack of a quarterback caught up with them in an embarrassing loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

So, the team went out and dished out a whopping sum of $72 million to bring in a quarterback in Brock Osweiler. That averages out to $18 million per season for a quarterback who’s played in fewer than 18 games.
But the Texans know they overpaid on a guy they think can get them over the hump. Quarterback was one of the few holes on the roster a year ago, so we’ll see where they go from here.
2016 Texans Roster Changes
Osweiler was the big signing of the offseason for the Texans. But he wasn’t the only big-ticket addition on the offensive side of the ball. Lamar Miller comes over from the Miami Dolphins to take over Arian Foster’s spot in the offense.
Foster was the most storied running back in the short history of the franchise, but there’s hope Miller can fill his shoes.

The team spent a first round pick on wide receiver Will Fuller. He joins a deep an explosive wide receiving corps.
While the skill positions look a little nicer, the departures of guard Brandon Brooks and center Ben Jones feel like the kind of losses that aren’t flashy but the team will feel when the games start counting.
2016 Houston Texans Predictions: Offense
In the NFL, it’s really hard to upgrade at quarterback, and while the Texans overpaid to get their guy – and they know they overpaid – they did accomplish the feat of improving their position under center.
In the playoffs last year, everyone said the team would have had a fighting chance if they had a quarterback and a healthy Arian Foster.
Well, they have their quarterback, and their running back situation looks pretty bright. Miller was exceptional in a bad situation in Miami where the team just refused to give him the ball with the kind of frequency they should have.

When he did get it, he was great. It’s going to be fun to see what he can do when the Texans unleash him.
A lot of people look at the Texans’ wide receivers and see DeAndre Hopkins and a bunch of fillers, but there’s a lot of talent there.
Fuller is a great downfield complement to Hopkins, Cecil Shorts is an underrated option out of the slot, Jaelen Strong is ready to break out at any moment, and Braxton Miller has plenty of upside.
2016 Houston Texans Predictions: Defense
Hearts across Houston stopped when news came down of J.J. Watt’s back surgery. He’s the guy that makes the defense go, and his absence will be sorely missed for however long that is.
There’s really nothing else to talk about on the defense – the length of J.J. Watt’s absence is the No. 1 determinant in how this unit fares this season.
If we’re to believe his 10-week recovery timetable, he’ll likely be back for Week 3, but the team may be wise to sit him another week or two and get him back at 100 percent.
2016 Houston Texans Analysis:
While everyone questions Osweiler, fans aren’t paying enough attention to how good the group of skill position players the team has are.

Hopkins alone accounts for 187 receptions, 2,731 receiving yards, and 17 touchdowns over the last two seasons while playing with an ugly stable of throwers.
This offense has a chance to be special, and when Watt returns to the field, all the pieces will be in place for a run at the division title. With one of the best coaches in football in Bill O’Brien calling the shots, the Texans have a good shot at 10 or 11 wins.
