2016-2017 Cowboys Preview & NFL Future Lines
Looking for 2016 Dallas Cowboys Predictions? We’ve got your back. The Dallas Cowboys have, at times, looked like a legitimate Super Bowl contender. They’re less than 20 months removed from a very questionable no-catch call costing them a spot in the NFC title game where they would have played the Seattle Seahawks after having won at Seattle during the regular season.

Then last season we got a taste of just how bad the team can be when Tony Romo’s on the shelf. Couple that with an injury to Dez Bryant and the team’s first year without DeMarco Murray was a rough one.
But Romo’s back and Bryant’s healthy and the team is in position for another run at glory. Can this be the year the Cowboys get Jerry Jones back to the Super Bowl?
2016 Cowboys Roster Changes
Few teams had a more dissected draft than the Cowboys, who bypassed elite defensive talent to select Ohio State running back Ezekiel Elliott with their first-round pick.

This gives the team a great outlook at the position, but with one of the top offensive lines in NFL history already in tow, targeting a mid-round running back like Devontae Booker may have been a wiser investment.
The team didn’t do enough to help its defense, adding Cedric Thornton and Benson Mayowa to bolster the defensive line.
With that said, Murray ran the ball so well in 2014 it negated a lot of the defensive issues by leaving that unit on the sideline, and Elliott could play a similar role this season.
2016 Dallas Cowboys Predictions: Offense
When the Cowboys had all their success in 2014, head coach Jason Garrett used the running game as the foundation for the team’s offense.
With rookie of the year favorite Elliott now in place, he figures to go right back to that. Running behind this elite offensive line which made a 1,000-yard rusher out of Darren McFadden’s old bones a year ago will be the focus of the offense.

Romo’s back, and all of this goes out the window if he gets hurt again, because the team goes right back to being a bottom-10 squad if he gets hurt again.
He’ll likely be called on to be the kind of uber-efficient and sometimes explosive game manager he was in 2014, with more of an emphasis on game management.
The Cowboys’ pass-catchers will again run through Dez Bryant. Jason Witten still sits at the head of the tight end table, though Gavin Escobar looks ready to pass him as soon as Witten’s put out to pasture.
While his receiving skills may be declining rapidly, Witten offers enough as a blocker to stay on the field.
2016 Dallas Cowboys Predictions: Defense
The defense has a storm to weather in the early going.
Defensive ends DeMarcus Lawrence and Randy Gregory are each suspended for the first four games of the regular season. Linebacker Rolando McClain is suspended 10 games.
Defensive end Mayowa underwent knee surgery in June, though he’s expected to be on the field in Week 1.

As important as Romo is to the offense, Sean Lee is nearly as important to the defense. He was able to stay healthy last season, and they’ll need him to do it again this year.
He’s a true difference maker on that side of the ball.
2016 Dallas Cowboys Analysis:
The Cowboys have a lot of elite players on the roster, and last year we learned just how quickly the team’s plans can blow up with one or more of those players getting hurt.
All the pieces are in place now for the team to revert back to its 2014 form, with Elliott seeing a lot of the action on offense – both to move the ball, and to keep the defense on the sidelines.
Dallas can make a run at 11 or 12 wins and a first-round by this season.
