The roster checks off a lot of boxes – they have their quarterback, a top-10 running back, an elite No. 1 wide receiver, strong defensive secondary, and they’re good at stopping the run.
Avoiding injuries and getting better line play on both sides of the ball will be what determines how the team fairs in Year Two of the Ryan-era.
2016 Bills Roster Changes
Another group of Bills defenders moved to Philadelphia this offseason, with Nigel Bradham and Leodis McKelvin following Jim Schwartz to the City of Brotherly Love.
The biggest loss on that side of the ball was Mario Williams, who just wasn’t a good fit in Ryan’s system. The team hopes 19th overall pick Shaq Lawson will be able to fill the void left by Williams.
Buffalo lucked out in the second round of the draft when Alabama linebacker Reggie Ragland fell to them. He should be a starter from day one.

The offense will look largely the same, minus depth receiver Chris Hogan. Guard Richie Incognito and tackle Cordy Glenn were re-signed, keeping a pair of key cogs in the league’s top rushing offense in place.
The team was happy enough with what they saw from Tyrod Taylor to open up negotiations on a contract extension.
2016 Buffalo Bills Predictions: Offense
Buffalo’s offense ranked first in the league in rushing yards a year ago, and with many of the same faces back in place, the team figures to stick with what made them so successful last season.
Keeping Taylor and LeSean McCoy on the field will be important. A four-game suspension for Karlos Williams coupled with his poor conditioning upon arriving at camp figure to mean
Offseason surgery has many wondering about the health of top wideout Sammy Watkins, but all signs point to him being ready to hit the ground running in Week 1.
If that’s the case, the Bills should be able to take some strides forward in their passing offense with Watkins, Robert Woods, and Charles Clay leading the charge in their second year catching passes from Taylor.

Bringing back Incognito and Glenn give the Bills one of the strongest left sides to the offensive line in football. They took advantage of that by pounding the defensive right side in key rushing situations and figure to do the same this season.
2016 Buffalo Bills Predictions: Defense
Despite Buffalo’s success stopping the run a year ago, there were and still are some questions about their front-seven. With Mario Williams gone, there doesn’t appear to be much support for Jerry Hughes in the pass-rush.
Lawson was one of the top pass rushers in college football last season, but relying on him to be Hughes’ running mate from Week 1 is a big ask.
Ragland was a steal for the Bills in the second round. Paired with Preston Brown, who figures to bounce back after a rough 2015 that followed a strong rookie campaign in 2014, projects to give the Bills’ linebacking corps a boost.
The combination of Defensive Rookie of the Year Ronald Darby and Stephon Gilmore give the Bills as good a 1-2 cornerback duo as there is in the game today. They made McKelvin expendable.
2016 Buffalo Bills Analysis:
The Bills have a lot of good pieces in place. Keeping key pieces healthy will be vital if they hope to end their playoff drought.

If Watkins is more hurt than the team’s letting on, the season could be a throwaway, but a fully healthy Bills team can certainly compete for 10 or 11 wins.
