Texas Tech
Texas Tech’s full body of work this season was impressive. It finished in a tie for second place in the Big-12 and beat Nevada, Northwestern and BC in the non-conference.
But those non-conference victories diminished in value as the season wore on and Tech did not finish the season looking like a #3 seed in the NCAA Tournament.

The Red Raiders lost five of their last seven games, including a three-point defeat in the Big-12 Tournament semifinals.
Four of those five losses came right in a row and it’s no coincidence that Kennan Evans was hobbled during that stretch. He sprained a toe and played either poorly, sparingly or not at all in all four of the losses.
He’s back now but still not at 100 percent. He’s a guard and one who plays off the ball more than he does on it, so mobility is key. I’m assuming he’ll be all right for this game with the adrenaline but it won’t necessarily take much for him to aggravate it again.
Evans was named an All-American second-team. If he’s wobbly, consider Texas Tech prime upset material.
Stephen F. Austin
A third-place finisher in the regular season Southland season, Stephen F. Austin swept through the conference tournament to earn yet another NCAA Tournament bid.
The Lumberjacks will stay in Texas, closer to Texas Tech territory but still not too far away to get a strong contingent of their own.

Seven guys averaged at least 23 minutes for SFA in the regular season and they can almost all shoot the deep ball. As a team, it shoots better than 37 percent from outside the arc.
But keep a close eye on junior forward TJ Holyfield. He has NBA scouts interested because of his size and ability to both shoot the three and rebound the basketball. He is riding back-to-back double-doubles in the semifinals and finals of the Southland Conference Tournament into this Round of 64 matchup.
