Pacific Tigers
Pacific’s season got started on Tuesday night in Edwardsville, Illinois and beat the Cougars, 74–65.
It wasn’t that close for most of the game. The Tigers scored the first sixteen points of the game, a heck of the way to start your season, and led by as many as twenty-three in the first half. They led by nineteen at the break.

Lafayette Dorsey, a 6’1″ sophomore guard from Los Angeles who averaged seven a game last season as a freshman, led the Tigers in their season opener with eighteen points.
Always nice to get a road win to start the season. Nevada will be a bit of a step up from SIU-Edwardsville, though.
Nevada Wolf Pack
Nevada’s expectations are sky-high after reaching the Sweet Sixteen. The Wolf Pack looked the part in Tuesday’s sixteen-point win over BYU in Reno.
The Cougars hung with Nevada for most of the game but the Pack’s firepower down the stretch was just too much. Nevada shot thirty-nine free throws and got to the rim at will. It also grabbed nearly fifty rebounds.

Jordan Carolina scored a game-high twenty-five. He, Caleb Martin and Cody Martin are the three big dogs for the Wolf Pack this season. They have Nevada resembling and NBA team with the size and speed on the perimeter.
Nevada was a Final Four contender last season until Lindsey Drew ruptured his achilles. He’s been Eric Musselman’s starting point guard since the two arrived in Nevada in 2015.
Drew didn’t play in the opening game of the season and I can’t find any information on whether he will red-shirt in what would be his senior season or play it out, once he gets healthy. That decision should have been made by now.
