2016-2017 NBA Previews – Wizards Odds
Looking for 2016 Washington Wizards Predictions? We’ve got your back. The Wizards finished at an even .500 last season but out of the playoffs. Injuries were definitely a factor as SG Bradley Beal missed more than 20 games. Some nights it looked like John Wall was all on his own. As good as he is he is not a dynamic enough scorer.

Good healthy will help this team compete at the bottom of the East but team additions like Trey Burke and other are not that inspiring.
Washington Wizards Strengths:
John Wall is one of the best point guards in the game.
Every year his shooting seems to become a little more reliable but he is able to blow by opponents and has a nice mid-range game.
When he is on the floor with Beal they are a top 5 backcourt that is versatile offensively and defends and rebounds at a high level.
They are about the same size so they can switch up things defensively depending on matchups and game flow.

At times Trey Burke looks like the star he was at Michigan.
When he is is the game he is a reliable shot taker. I am curious to see how much they play him with Wall so that he can play off the ball, which is more his strong suit.
The Wizards have a lot of options to take threes that can spread the floor even if they lack that true elite sniper.
New coach Scott Brooks should be a breath of fresh air. Last season the team significantly underperformed and things had gotten stale under coach Randy Wittman.
Brooks is a winner so he immediately brings some cred and should be able to get the team to maximize its talent more.
Look for more flow and he definitely knows how to get a lot out of an elite PG. Russell Westbrook and John Wall have similar skill sets.
Washington Wizards Weaknesses:
I guess it shouldn’t be a surprise from a .500 team a year ago but what is this team really good at, what is the one aspect of their game that they can count on night after night and use to feed the rest of their game.
A new coach is going to have to establish that but I am not sure where we start.
There is no obvious defining factor based on what we have seen from this group in the past.

Even though I like Gortat he has never really been a force on the glass.
Newcomer Ian Mahinmi is not bad as a rebounder but assuming Brooks wants to get this group to play at a faster pace he needs guys who can clean up on the defensive boards and move it quickly.
Wall can be a one man fast break some of the time but pace will be more team wide if it is going to be effective.
You have to be able to own the defensive glass to play that way.
Washington was a bad defensive team last year, ranking 29th in points allowed.
Neither the coach they brought in nor any of the new players, save maybe Mahinmi have a real defensive prowess.
They have no obvious rim protector and nobody on the roster is around to get the guys to dig in when they have to. Paul Pierce is no defensive ace but when he was with the team he could get the energy up for key moments.
They have nobody like that.
Washington Wizards Betting Prediction: 45 – 37
If the Wizards can stay healthy this season it should mean some improvement. It is hard losing your second best player and scorer in this league.
I am very curious to see if we see an explosion from Wall under Brooks tutelage.
His skill set might be better than Westbrook’s but he is nowhere near as aggressive. More importantly, if his numbers do take a big jump will that do anything significant for the team. I am not sure.

It will be interesting to see how much Brooks can change the culture of this team.
Last year, they were .500 by never getting too high or too low.
They were good at rebounding from losses but not good at stringing together wins. It is almost like they knew they were better than they showed but needed to lose to be reminded of that.
If this group can play with more confidence it could make a big difference. It is hard to pinpoint a lot of situations where you want to get behind them heading into the season.
