This game showcases one of the league’s best teams in San Antonio traveling to Madison Square Garden to face the Knicks.
The Spurs are red hot winning 5 straight games by 8 or more points, while New York is 1-6 in their last 7 games.
The Spurs won both games in last year’s season series.
San Antonio Spurs
The Spurs continue to play like one of the best teams in the NBA, and although it looks like an inevitable Cleveland/ Golden State rematch, don’t rule the Spurs out of the equation yet.

Kawhi Leonard continues to put up spectacular numbers as the leader of the Spurs. He has been extremely effective scoring the ball during this 5 game winning streak.
Leonard is getting things done on both sides of the floor as he has put up consecutive 32 point, 6 rebound, 5 assist performances. Leonard is arguably the second best small forward in the NBA behind Lebron James, and should have plenty of opportunities to score against a weak defensive Knicks team.
Lamarcus Aldridge has picked up 3 straight double doubles and looks to be getting into a groove heading into the All Star break. He scored 19 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.
Aldridge is also putting up big numbers on the defensive end with 2 blocks or more in each game of the winning streak. He is still a talented player who can put up huge numbers on any given night.
The only issue during this good offensive run for Aldridge has been turnovers. He committed 5 turnovers in the win against the Pistons. If he continues to haphazardly hold onto the ball the Knicks may be able to take advantage of it.

Despite getting a little older in age, Tony Parker can still be a key contributor as the Spurs head toward a strong playoff run. He was great against the Piston’s point guards as he racked up 12 assists. At this point he isn’t asked to score 18 points a game but his veteran savvy should be enough against the Knicks backcourt.
New York Knicks
The Knicks continue to fade into another lottery pick as the season progresses. The passive aggressive squabbling between Phil Jackson and Carmelo Anthony has had an effect on the overall team.
Even with these issues on the team, Carmelo Anthony continues to be a top scorer in the NBA. He has put up 3 straight games of 26+ points, and put up 33 in the loss to Denver. He also shot 6-10 from behind the arc. He also grabbed 6 rebounds and dished out 4 assists in the game.
Anthony will have to go up against Kawhi Leonard, so I don’t expect him to put up huge numbers in this one, but 20 points and 5 rebounds should be on his stat line after this one.
Kristaps Porzingis had a good scoring game against the Nuggets, shooting 7-14 from the floor. He didn’t grab a ton of rebounds in that game but had grabbed 6 or more in the previous four contests.
His issues stem from getting into foul trouble, and he continues to be a liability on defense. For the Knicks to shape the team around Porzingis they will need to focus on the defensive side of the ball until he can become a better defender.

With Lamarcus Aldridge facing off against him on the block I don’t expect Porzingis to have a big night, as the Spurs defense should clamp down on the Knicks #2 scoring option.
