San Antonio Spurs
San Antonio is in the midst of a six-game road trip that began with a win in Phoenix and then saw the Spurs drop one in Golden State.
Now, with two games left before the All-Star break, the Spurs will have the play the next two without LaMarcus Aldridge. Aldridge is getting some rest and minor treatment done on his knee as the Spurs play a back-to-back on Monday and Tuesday before taking ten days off around the break.

This isn’t anything sudden with Aldridge and was prearranged to get him some rest and keep his knee, which he’s had work done on in the past, healthy.
So San Antonio is in Utah on Monday to play the hottest team in the NBA. Then a quick turnaround for this one against a team no one wants to play on a back-to-back, especially on the road.
The Spurs don’t really have anywhere to climb in the standings. Golden State and Houston look like they are clear of everybody in the West. They would love to stay out of a four/five matchup, though.

That would likely result in a showdown with either Minnesota or Oklahoma City. As it stands now, the Spurs would host the Trail Blazers in the first round and then likely get on the way to Houston.
Denver Nuggets
There’s a strong chance that first round opponent could be Denver, too. The Nuggets are even with the Blazers in the loss column and just one win behind, currently in seventh place in the Western Conference standings.
While San Antonio will enter this game a little weary from the travel and the game the night before, Denver has been resting since its game at Phoenix on Saturday.
It has one more game before the break (Thursday in Milwaukee) before taking a hiatus and opening the second half with another home game against the Spurs, who go into and leave the break in Denver.

The Nuggets have the return of Paul Millsap to look forward to in the post-All Star break schedule. Millsap, who has been recovering from a broken wrist, is scheduled to return sometime early or in the middle of next month.
Millsap was one of Denver’s four players averaging at least 15 points per game before he went down.
Fresh legs down the stretch will benefit the Nuggets as they make a run toward the playoffs and spoiling a contender’s season in the first round.

Free San Antonio Spurs vs. Denver Nuggets NBA Prediction: San Antonio surprises.
San Antonio will likely be decided underdogs, on the road, on the back-to-back and without Aldridge. But this is when the Spurs are at their best. Look for an “empty the tank” sort of effort in their last game before ten days off.
