Nobody’s going to claim that the Sacramento Kings are better without DeMarcus Cousins. After all, the center (now with the New Orleans Pelicans) is arguably the best in the game at his position.
That said, the team has a young piece in Buddy Hield who is making a new name for himself with impressive shooting splits and the offense has a tendency to flow with more ease nowadays than it ever did when forcing it down low to Boogie.
The Kings deserve credit for their willingness to pull the trigger on a Cousins trade (even if it was too late and better offers had been removed from the table), but the question here isn’t about their future; it’s about how well they can play against one of the league’s few top-tier teams in the San Antonio Spurs.

Sacramento Kings
With Boogie gone, Willie Cauley-Stein is starting to make a name for himself. He’s always been known as a versatile defender, but in Cousins’ absence, he’s showing he can be counted upon to shoot a high percentage at the rim, even if in small sample sizes.
His best outing came in the first contest following All-Star Weekend (aka, when Cousins was dealt). He scored 29 points on 14-of-22 shooting with 10 rebounds to boot.
He hasn’t put up those types of numbers since; however, he did score 15 and nine in his last two games, respectively.

Unfortunately for the Kings, despite their young players stepping up and ball moving well, success hasn’t been there in large volumes since the All-Star Game.
This group is just 1-5 in its six games since the ASG — all five of those losses have come in sequence entering this contest against San Antonio.
San Antonio Spurs
The NBA has two consensus leaders in the NBA’s MVP race. James Harden and Russell Westbrook have been neck and neck all season, but there are two names that are darkhorses that deserve far more credit.
The first: LeBron James. We won’t go into too many details here, but you can imagine where the Cleveland Cavaliers would be without The King.
The other is Kawhi Leonard. Simply put: Leonard has turned into a freak on both ends of the court.
Always known for his defensive prowess (largely because of his, well, large hands), Leonard is now making his name known on offense. He’s shooting an incredible percentage and all while maintaining his status as a No. 1 option within the Spurs offense.
But here’s the kicker: He hasn’t lost a step on D.

Take the Spurs’ last outing against the Houston Rockets. With the game on the line, Leonard knocked down a three-pointer, blocked a Harden shot at the rim and nailed two clutch free throws.
Sequences like that don’t happen if the Spurs aren’t competitive enough for them to mean anything.
But maybe more importantly, sequences like that don’t happen at all if Leonard doesn’t put his team in position to get a monumental victory.

Free Sacramento Kings vs. San Antonio Spurs NBA Prediction:
San Antonio can be a tricky team to bet. As dominant as it has the potential to be on a nightly basis, there’s no desire from anyone on the roster to win flashy.
That’s why we’re giving the Spurs a comfortable victory, but we just can’t justify a win ATS with a spread as large as this one.
4* Free NBA Betting Pick: Sacramento ATS
The Spurs get the W, but the Kings get the W against the spread.
