Philadelphia 76ers
The Sixers pulled off their gutsiest win of the series Saturday afternoon as they edged out the Nets 112-108, winning both games away from home on their way to taking a 3-1 series lead.
Philly has to feel a bit lucky to get out of Brooklyn with the win, as they found themselves behind for most of the game before putting together a stellar effort on the defensive end in the 4th quarter, allowing the Nets to score just 17 points.

The trash talk finally resulted in some action on Saturday evening, as center Joel Embiid’s hard foul on Jarrett Allen resulted in some pushing and shoving that sent the refs over to the monitors.
When the dust finally settled, Jared Dudley and Jimmy Butler were sent to the locker room early, a tradeoff I’m sure the Nets would be pleased with although Dudley was having his best game of the series. Neither player will be suspended for their actions.
The Nets still have yet to find an answer for Joel Embiid, who had his biggest game of the series. Joel finished with 31 points, 16 rebounds, and added 7 assists on offense to go with a 2 steal 6 block game on the defensive side of the ball. It appears Embiid is finally healthy, as he logged a series high 32 minutes and is listed as probable for tonight’s game.
Philly shot 50% from the field, and really had things working off of the screen and roll. Mid-season acquisition Tobias Harris has been a nightmare off of the screen and roll these past two games, often finding himself matched up with big man Jarrett Allen. Harris has taken full advantage of this matchup as his mid-range shot has been a thing of beauty since game 2.
I expect Philly to close out this series in what should be an incredibly chippy game.
Brooklyn Nets
The Nets have got to feel sick about this one. They held the 76ers below their scoring average on the year and were able to keep up with their scoring before a 17 point quarter cost them the game.

Kenny Atkinson had himself a hell of a game in this one. He finally gave Caris Levert a big increase in minutes with a career-high 42 and produced 25 points while shooting 50% from the field.
Levert wasn’t the only Net to see a big increase in minutes either, as all-star guard D’Angelo Russell added 21 points, 7 boards, and 6 assists in his 37 minutes.
Perhaps the Net greatest feat in this one was their ability to keep the 76ers off of the offensive glass. They did a tremendous job of getting bodies on Philly’s bigs every time a shot went up and made a team effort to crash the glass and avoid the tip-outs that we saw so many of in game 4. Brooklyn made sure to be active on the offensive boards as well, outrebounding Philly 13-12 in the category.

One player on this team who deserves a ton of credit is lone veteran Jared Dudley, who had himself a hell of a game on the defensive end. Dudley was a pest out there, taunting Ben Simmons after a made 3 as well as barking in Joel Embiid’s face after forcing the big man to commit a shot clock violation. He had himself an 8 point and 5 assist day with a +/- rating of +12 before hitting the showers early after his scuffle with Butler and Embiid.
Although he had a much better game on the defensive end, Joe Harris once again failed offensively and missed some huge shots that played a big role in Brooklyn losing on Saturday. He went 0-6 from downtown and is now 0-10 combined over the past 2 games.
Even though the Nets looked much better on Saturday, I have a hard time seeing them extending the series away from home.
