Tuesday, November 7 finds two Western Conference foes entering their fourth week of play in the 2017-18 regular season for the Oklahoma City Thunder and Sacramento Kings. Both teams are struggling to find a star player as their stars left to chase a ring.
Last season, the squads played three times with the Thunder taking the series two to one. The Thunder hold the all-time record against the Kings with a 142-85 record.
Oklahoma City Thunder
In their recent game, the Oklahoma City Thunder did not have an answer in trying to stop superstar Damian Lillard as he tore about the team in all 4 quarters.
Damian Lillard appears to have shelved whatever problems he had with his shooting touch the first two weeks of the NBA season.
The Portland guard tied his season high with 36 points, hitting 10 of 18 shots and going 15 of 15 from the free throw line, and the Trail Blazers held off the Oklahoma City Thunder 103-99 on Sunday night. Lillard also handed out a season-high 13 assists.
Paul George topped the Thunder (4-5) with 27 points. Russell Westbrook had 25 points and nine assists.

Lillard went through a five-game stretch where he shot a collective 34 percent (30 of 88). But he has picked it up of late, as Sunday was his fourth consecutive 30-point game. It didn’t hurt the confident Lillard that he was facing Westbrook, the 2016-17 NBA MVP.

Portland needed all of Lillard and Nurkic’s efforts to fend off Oklahoma City, which played short-handed for much of the second half after Carmelo Anthony was ejected for a flagrant 2 foul.
Anthony, who had 15 points and six rebounds, was ejected with 4:26 left in the third quarter. Driving to the basket for a layup, Anthony elbowed the chin of Nurkic, who collapsed and lay on the floor for more than a minute. Initially, Nurkic was called for the foul, but following a video review, Anthony was hit with a flagrant 2 foul.
Sacramento Kings
The Kings dropped their seventh game in a row tonight, sinking their overall record to 1-8. Although the losses are beginning to pile up, and future win possibilities look slim, this was a much more encouraging defeat than our previous three contests, if such a thing is possible.
This is what most of us expected at the start of the season: competitive games in which a few young guys play well, but the lack of overall talent on the roster is eventually too much to overcome.
Although a new starting lineup of De’Aaron Fox, Garret Temple, Bogdan Bogdanovic, Zach Randolph, and Willie Cauley-Stein was utilized due to George Hill’s absence (personal reasons), the Kings once again started off slow.

Frank Mason III, Malachi Richardson, and Buddy Hield anchored the scoring and playmaking in the second period. Dave Joerger played a 13 man rotation in the first half, and after briefly taking the lead, Sacramento walked into the break down 52-49.
The final period was back and forth, but the Kings couldn’t get enough stops to make a difference.
The reserves who were extremely effective in the first half struggled to make any impact, and Joerger was probably a little late in getting his best players back in the game.
An Avery Bradley three-pointer with three minutes left in the game put the final nail in the coffin for the Kings.
