These two teams tipped off their Round 1 series on Sunday afternoon with a 104-99 win by the Trail Blazers. OKC is out for revenge, while Portland knows it still needs to win Game 2 to “take care of business” at home—something that will be difficult considering Sunday’s outing was Rip City’s first win over OKC after falling victim to the broom in their four regular-season matchups.
These two tip off at 10:30 p.m. ET for Game 2.
Oklahoma City Thunder
OKC came out with a brilliant offensive attack in Game 1. It was simple, it was brute and—at least in the very beginning of the game—it was effective.
Oklahoma City used Aquaman himself, Steven Adams, to bully ball into the paint against Enes Kanter. Portland’s starting center (in pkace of Jusuf Nurkic) went on to have a career game as far as the box score is concerned, but there’s still a duality about his game (severe lack of defense) that the Thunder were able to take advantage of.

The catch was that OKC couldn’t get a three-pointer to drop to save their lives, which would’ve kept the defense honest and unable to double team on the block. The Thunder also couldn’t stop Portland from hitting their threes.
For Oklahoma City to turn things around, it needs to start hitting jumpers. If Paul George’s shoulder is as bad as it looked, that begins with Russell Westbrook.
Although it may fall on deaf ears to ask the franchise point guard and overall maniac on the hardwood to slow things down, that’s what needs to happen.
Cheap transition buckets and point guard dunks are good for momentum, but half-court offense—and specifically, hitting jumpers—will be the biggest factor for Oklahoma City.

Portland Trail Blazers
The Trail Blazers looked overall great in their Game 1 debut. Jusuf Nurkic’s defense was sorely missed on those possessions where Adams used his size and strength to outclass Kanter on the end of the floor, but his playmaking wasn’t as badly needed as originally expected, as the Blazers avoided the same offensive struggles they endured a year ago when the New Orleans Pelicans sent their packing in sweep fashion despite Portland being the 6-3 seed favorites.

That’s largely because Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum were both able to get going in the same game—something that rarely happened in last year’s quick series.
It’s also because players like Al-Farouq Aminu and Mo Harkless were making plays on defense, taking the pressure off the backcourt.
It doesn’t hurt, either, that Kanter decided to go for 20 and 18 with two blocks.

Free Oklahoma City Thunder vs. Portland Trail Blazers NBA Prediction: OKC claps back.
You have to believe the shooting imbalance is going to get better in OKC’s favor by the time they get back home, but if Paul George is able to get things going on the road, it will make all the difference.
4* Free NBA Playoff Betting Pick: OKC ATS
Expect the Thunder to be a bit more conservative in their approach with Paul George (fewer long shots, more creation). If Westbrook follows suit and the team can hit even a few more jumpers, they have a chance to send the series back to Oklahoma City all tied up.
