New York Knicks
The backcourt duo of John Wall and Bradley Beal combined for 52 points in Washington’s 121–103 victory over the Knicks on Wednesday night.
The Wizards’ defense held Kristaps Porzingis in check. He made just five shots for 18 points. Michael Beasley, instead, led the team in scoring with 20 off the bench.

Beasley, Doug McDermott and Ron Baker were the only Knicks that finished with a positive +/-. They combined to go +5 and Beasley added nine rebounds, two steals and two blocks to his team-high scoring output.

Those are two losses in a row for New York and six losses in the last seven games. It won’t get much easier from here, with a game in Dallas against an improving Mavericks squad, before coming home to play Chicago and soon after, a long road trip.
Miami Heat
The Heat got a bit lucky on Wednesday when Andre Drummond didn’t play due to a rib contusion that wasn’t revealed until later in the day and after the oddsmakers came out with the line, Miami -3.
Josh Richardson, Kelly Olynyk and Goran Dragic combined to make 11 three-pointers on 17 attempts. Wayne Ellington and James Johnson each made three off the bench, too.

Ellington has become a huge part of the Miami offense in the last month or so. After averaging just about a dozen minutes per game in October, he played 22 in November and almost 29 in December. Over his last five games, he’s averaging close to 34. He’s shooting over 42 percent from three on a career-high 6.6 attempts per game, too. And he’s been even better lately, when he has played more consistent minutes.
Ellington elicits memories of old-school Richard Hamilton, running defenders ragged by taking them from corner to corner, using off-ball screens to free him up for catch-and-shoot opportunities.
With Hassan Whiteside back, Miami is just missing Justise Winslow, who continues to nurse a bad knee. There’s no timetable for his return. In fact, it’s been a mysterious injury situation. Miami continues to rule him out game to game, as if he could come back at any time, but there hasn’t been much tangible progress to suggest he will be back soon. It’s safe to assume he won’t play this game.
